Xbox One (Durango) Technical hardware investigation

Just FYI: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-the-making-of-killzone-shadow-fall There's even a video in that article that shows the profiling tools of Killzone Shadow Fall. It explicitly mentions and shows 6 CPU threads that are in use by the game. If they were allowed to use 7...

News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

Actually, I've seen exactly that in an Xbox One Video by the guy who got his device early. He was moving through the app/games list and there was an app called "Kinect Training". So it's there, it's just People don't seem to bother. They should at least prompt you to do it once, to familiarize...

News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

What exactly are you talking about? Games for Gold on 360 works in Europe. If you mean the major nelson announcement on twitter that something similar will be announced in 2014 for Xbox One well then, basically all we got is an announcement of a coming announcement.

Analyst claims Xbox losing $2 Billion per Year; Suggests it should be dropped

I'm in no way a financial specialist or analyst, but I kind of doubt that they are currently generating losses. They pumped in a whole lot of money for R&D and the huge RROD debacle with X360 but I can't imagine that their operational income from console sales, xbox live, etc. is currently...

*split* multiplatform console-world problems + Image Quality Debate

You know, I guess all that talk of "super-charged pc architecture" on Sony's side really seems to be just that. While on the other hand MS's talk about "balanced hardware" and whatnot, in the light of recent events, sounds more and more like plain PR after all. I'm not trying to make a fanboy...

News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

So, from an MS perspective, what would have been their train of thought? We have an existing Party-Chat VoIP system, that is integrated into the OS-layer and arguably the best solution out there on current-gen consoles. And then when designing the VoIP system for the next-gen console you dump...

Xbox One (XBO) Day One Buyers: Are You an Xbox Live! (Live) Subscriber?

Basically follow this official link: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Live#features That there is a distinction being made between "gold" and "no gold" implies that there will be some kind of silver membership for X1. There is no mention of a silver membership there, but where have you heard otherwise...

Xbox One (XBO) Day One Buyers: Are You an Xbox Live! (Live) Subscriber?

Where do people get this stuff from? Why wouldn't there be silver accounts anymore? The Xbox Live Account system stays the same with Xbox one. You're a silver member now, you will be one on X1. You're a gold member you'll be one on X1 too.

Xbox One (Durango) Technical hardware investigation

Considering this http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTI1MDE it sounds a lot like MS has just renamed another already available part of AMDs technology. What's described there sounds remarkably similar to what MS is calling their "data move engines". Sorry if this was already...

Xbox One (Durango) Technical hardware investigation

It's also clear that while the statement regarding upclock better than +2CUs might be true (we will never know, we can only take their word for it), it was probably the only real possible solution at that point. Enabling the 2 deactivated CUs would've most definitely lead to yield problems...

Xbox One: DirectX 11.1+ AMD GPU , PS4: DirectX 11.2+ AMD GPU what's the difference?

If we are to believe the latest DF article and both consoles are based on Sea Islands then it is safe to say that both consoles will support tier2 PRT. So much for that. Mystery solved :D At least if MS is actually correct and Sony's HW is also based on Sea Islands

John Carmack: Doom 4 will support Partially Resident Textures (Tiled Resources)

Now I think that bolded part would not necessarily be true. Considering that for typical scenes, the displayed picture doesn't change much during consecutive frames, it could be well worth having a small PRT "cache" in the ESRAM. Hence, it would be more efficient to have fast and low-latency...

    *spin-off* Ryse Trade-Offs

I wonder if this downgrade is simply due to a lack of graphics power, or if it has anything to do with them requiring to fit more buffers/data into the ESRAM at this lower resolution. According to the presentation "A bit more deferred - Cryengine 3", it is supposed to be some kind of deferred...

Xbox One: DirectX 11.1+ AMD GPU , PS4: DirectX 11.2+ AMD GPU what's the difference?

Actually, I think the more obvious reason for this new "hybrid" technology support in Win8.1 is to accommodate for solutions like NVidia optimus where any iGPU could be coupled with a dGPU. In Win-Desktop Apps the Nvidia driver handles the switching between iGPU and dGPU, but this solution did...

Xbox One: DirectX 11.1+ AMD GPU , PS4: DirectX 11.2+ AMD GPU what's the difference?

Ok, so that sounds like a confirmation :D So we can assume that tier2 can handle PRT more effectively than tier1 hardware. But we still do not know for sure what that means for the new consoles, do we?
