    Killzone 2 pre-release discussion thread

Eh... I was in the beta too and there were definitly times where the framerate dipped very low. Exactly those intense moments you were describing, basically crowded clusterfucks where you have about eight people in the same corridor, grenades and rockets going off, all kinds of particle effects...

Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

The picture is more than adequate for comparing the AA, and the 360 version looks to have much better anti-aliasing. I can't say I'm a big fan of this temporal AA business. :???:

    [PS3] Uncharted 2

If you play footage for cut-scenes, all you have to do is stream a video from the disc. If you try to do the cutscene in real time you have to load a bunch of assets into memory that you likely won't need for the upcoming gameplay sequences. That's all the reason right there to do cutscenes as...

Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

GT5 in 2160p http://www.gran-turismo.com/en/sp/d2788.html Very cool, but it also begs the question, what res will GT5 ultimately run at? Maybe PD have settled on full HD but no AA (like some non-race parts of GT5P), or could it possibly be 1920x1080 2xAA...? Hmmmm Edit - Maybe jumped the...

    Bioshock PS3*

Looks like 2k sorted out the funny business with PS3 Bioshock. http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23044 Blurryness seems to be banished too.

Alternative distribution to optical disks : SSD, cards, and download*

I'm not fully up on SDD and flash drive technology, but I don't think transfer rate scales with the number of chips used. I guess you could do striping to attain those speeds, except that would leave your proposed unit with only 16GB of storage. As for the kiosk idea, ehhh... very un-appealing...

Alternative distribution to optical disks : SSD, cards, and download*

Those arguments are not convincing in the least bit. By the time the PS4 actually rolls around, the drive and transfer speeds of blu-ray will be greatly improved. On top of that, you can always include small capacity flash storage to stream to from disc or hdd. That seems like a far more...

Is the Wii capable of extensive AA?

Did WindWaker use any of these techniques? I remember the whole image being kind of soft and blurry...

Sony advertise for software engineer for BC

Think of it like this, the PS2 speaks a different language than the PS3. You need an interpreter (the emulator software) and writing that interpreter is a complicated task. It's not incompetence on the part of Sony, it's just not as simple as you imagine it is.

    GRID

Switching between the Grid demo (PS3) and GT5P, there's no doubt that GT looks cleaner. I'm gonna try forcing 720p, curious to see how it looks in lower res but with the extra AA...

The GT5 expectation thread (including preview titles)*

Yesterday I saw one of the replay modes that I hadn't noticed before. The roof cam with the fisheye lens and motion blur. I'm wondering how the fisheye distortion was done... the resolution is noticably lower, so it's probably a 2D warping effect being applied. The motion blur looks hot, wish...

*renamed* Lighting and shadows in games

The new Siren game has great lighting/shadow system, it seems like pretty much everything is able to cast shadows, very comprehensive. It also has this great lens flare effect that comes into effect not only when you look at light sources, but also any hotspots from your flashlight. Very cool...

Haze : The official game thread
