AMD: Speculation, Rumors, and Discussion (Archive)

I always thought AMD and in the past ATi over-engineered VRMs for instance on reference designs compared to nVIDIA. If your mass manufacturing these PCBAs (ref RX480 for example), having a reliable 3~4 phase VRM that handles just over the maximum rated board power would have been enough and...

    Doom [2016]

They've been getting removed. If you want to see it, go to here. You'll have to download the file from mega (2nd link). It was basically an unfinished version of the launch trailer with different music and scenes. Edit - Actually this one is still alive.

    Doom [2016]

The launch trailer. Looks amazing! I haven't bought any games in a long time but I think ill end up buying this game. Edit - I personally prefer the music from the leaked one and someone decided to make a redux version.

AMD: Speculation, Rumors, and Discussion (Archive)

And this comes back to Perf/W. Lower power consumption while delivering similar performance figures means less heat -> quieter cooler (or a budget one for increasing margins..7900GT anyone?). The AMD stock reference coolers dating back all the way back to the northern islands really has hurt AMD...

For those that missed the leaked SP trailer.. check it out because it looks awesome!

AMD: Pirate Islands (R* 3** series) Speculation/Rumor Thread

Looks very interesting and definitely not an off the shelf AIO CLC. More pictures here: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/06/amd-unveils-r9-fury-x-fury-and-nano-graphics-cards-2/

    Movie Reviews 2.0

Just saw Mad Max Fury Road. Didn't really know what to expect since Ive never seen the originals.. It was an absolute blast! haven't seen an action movie thats put me on the edge of my seat in a LONG time. 9.5/10 if not 10/10.

AMD: Pirate Islands (R* 3** series) Speculation/Rumor Thread

On top of that, they are including an AIO cooler as their "reference" design which is somewhat alarming (if the rumors are true of course). The leaked benchmarks indicate that the power consumption numbers are better or about the same to that of a R290X yet I can't see why the need for such...

    NVIDIA Maxwell Speculation Thread

Even if there were "one micro second spikes" as suggested by THG, i don't think it would do much to the TDP (or the average heat dissipated from the GPU + some margins perhaps) because the temperature can't just rapidly change within that time period. As long as the average power dissipated...

    NVIDIA Maxwell Speculation Thread

I don't think ive ever seen someone do a power measurement in a space of 1ms. This is only useful when measuring losses through say a mosfet e.g. switching losses. Plus all that could also just be high frequency noise (that may look like very high peaks on the scope which could be alarmingly...

Dedicated Graphics card sales Slow Down in Q2, NVIDIA Holds Market Share Lead

I completely agree with this. GPUs are primarily a 3D accelerator for ... games!! A few good PC titles with the ability to push current GPU technology to the brink could really en-light the dying fire and the need of these so called video cards in the first place. dGPUs are not going...

    Wolfenstein: The New Order

The game was so refreshing from the whole "hide and regen" to only allowed to carry 2 guns limitation that ALL fps games are doing these days with overly complicated AI which I dont necessarily think it results a better game play experience. Im not sure if its the engine, but killing enemies...

Impressive indeed for a low end card! Its about time low end cards get some love.

    Movie Reviews 2.0

Its because the hobbit has incorporated some parts of the silmarillion into its plot. And the second movie is by far twice better than the first one! Id give it a 8.5 or 9/10. Really enjoyed it in HFR/3D/IMAX.

AMD: Volcanic Islands R1100/1200 (8***/9*** series) Speculation/ Rumour Thread

Im not so sure about that seeing as the GTX780 Ti has similar power consumption to the R290X yet the cooler is able to maintain ~83C at reasonable noise levels. Maybe the bigger surface area is helping somewhat, but not all blower type coolers are created equal. Imo they should have spent...
