Xbox One (Durango) Technical hardware investigation

A CPU bump is much more interesting to me. That would likely have a more tangible impact on games and the system as a whole.

If those small CPU cores also took a .05 v increase (or more) to reliably hit that clock you are approaching what some may consider 'much'.

Xbox One (Durango) Technical hardware investigation

At PAX Australia yesterday Microsoft once again said 8GB of ram, and nothing else. I think we can put the 12GB rumor to rest personally. Seems silly they wouldnt have solidified specs by now and would mention it otherwise.

PlayStation 4 (codename Orbis) technical hardware investigation (news and rumours)

Yeah, I heard that Sony was allowing native OpenGL on PS4. If thats true the new announcement can only be seen as a good thing.

Sony is using their own API to access the hardware. I dont see why a OpenGL update would effect that. Presumably anything the hardware is capable of is already exposed.

Unless that's how their dev boards are already doing it (they do have 12GB supposedly) in which case they can get some good stress testing in pretty quickly.

Technical Comparison Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox

I would have personally preferred if they included the camera... that sucks a lot. As silly as Kinect is I know my wife would love it for games like just dance and all. Ah well. I have both preordered at Amazon, will likely the cancel the Xbox One preorder, but holding onto it since...

Xbox One (Durango) Technical hardware investigation

Given that Microsoft was apparently having yield issues, I'm more than a little surprised they are launching in 21 countries this year. I hope this doesn't lead any credence to the down-clocking rumor.

PlayStation 4 (codename Orbis) technical hardware investigation (news and rumours)

I would be fine with it personally if Sony held onto 5GB for now. 5GB is going to be enough for now, I really dont think a developer wont be able to fit within it with minimal optimization. You cant get it back once you give it away, so they should be careful and slow about it imo...

Xbox One (Durango) Technical hardware investigation

Was the down clocking rumor ever fully squashed? I remember reading about it a few days ago but it seems to have fallen off.

Arent we running into transistor limitations here though? We can guess there's more than just jaguar in there all we want, but with 5 million transistors - 1.6 billion for ESRAM - 12CU GCN core - 4 module Jaguar arent we only looking at a few hundred million unaccounted for, at best?

Nintendo announces a higher capacity Wiipad battery

I always thought they used such a small battery due to weight concerns of the pad itself, since its already so big they wanted to make sure smaller children could hold the thing.

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

Maybe its just me but at those prices the GTX 460 still very much has a purpose in the market. AMD is still leaving a large gap in their lineup between $140 and $200. I really expected the 6850 to be ~$185.

    AMD: R9xx Speculation

To me you just have to look at the end result. AMD did not need to call Barts 68xx. They specifically chose to. Why did they do this? Its not because they do not have a card to fill its shoes (Cay and Anti are both more than acceptable here) and it appears as though it may not be because it...
