Could it be that we are seeing a generational de-sync? Until now Sony and MS were in-sync. Is it conceivable that they might go out of sync and for instance Sony releases next gen in 2 years and MS waits another 1-2 year and does an one-up with a console that is half gen above?

eastman - MS never lead the market, Sony always had more active consoles on the market than MS. Even at the height of 360, there were more ps2/ps3 active consoles than xbox/360. As for first party - are you sure it's not just wishfull thinking from your part? MS does not need to be market...

It does not have to be an all inclusive unique price. A pricing by hours played can be envisioned. For instance - you sign up and you have no ideea how many hours you will play under the gamepass subscription. If it is less than 10 hours, you will be charged $5. If it si between 10 and 30...

My opinion is - game devs will actually make more money this way. Most of them, anyway. IF (big if, of course) you can convert all the XBOX/SONY ecosistem into subscription, that would be 240 bucks per year per gamer - much more than the average spent today.

I dont presume that it will replace selling of new and/or individual games. But personally I would prefer to fork 20 buck per month and have access to any/every game on the platform. MS is in a better position since 360 games are playable on ONE, whereas Sony would be only offering PS4 games...

Hopefully this is just the first step in a subscription based gaming business model. I hope we will next see a higher tier service, say 20 USD, with all games included from day 1 (or day 30, that's ok too). Look forward to Sony's response.

Even more so when we they will be mostly looking at these games on a 6 inch display, as Switch will mainly be used portable. And most "averagers" are quite content with 720p on a 1080p screen.

It's not only making a profit from the hardware, but could be a good thing for Playstation. If someone has a VR capable PC (and PSVR is available for PC also) and they choose to buy PSVR, then later, if they consider to buy also a gameconsole, their choice will be much easier to make in favor...
