perhaps that supplies are so low that prices rise to match? price reflecting limited supply and greater demand, what? and that those units which were available were primarily allocated the the market more important for pr, namely the US, esp. newegg (though it is out of 480's currently).

The answer is surely that Nvidia could release its sales numbers if it saw fit, and dispell all these "rumours" at one go. That it does not do so indicates releasing the numbers in question does not suit it. It is not usually the case that good news is kept hidden.

people aren't pointing out xman because he was wrong about the SP count - most likely nvidia itself wasn't sure on its final decision for the card until very recently - but about how adamant he was about it, and how certain he was about the reliability of his "source" :) I had to vote double...

did Hexus not mention fan volume? they ran it at 80% for their overclock... you'ld think they would have noticed ;) I guess I could take that as implying the noise level wasn't bad, but that just seems unlikely. Tolerable or horrible, that is the question. Guess we'll find out soon enough

++ I ordering the 8800gts the day B3D's review came out, demonstrating just how good the 8800's AF angle-independence was . I do not expect the same thing to happen w/ Fermi, however ;)

just a minor rectification of this error - the geforce 3 predated the 8500 by over 6 months. The 8500 was meant to be a geforce 3 killer, but early driver issues meant it took a while to achieve it's true potential. In the end, at very high AF, it was able to challenge the gf4 4200. edit...

well, of course, but it's not really a line that I would think nvidia would be happy with pushing... Just think that it's a bit of a bad idea to mention these things yet... unless they really need something to point forward to, ie. in order to say "sure, we're not beating the 5870 by much...

Breaking the 300 watt barrier shouldn't matter for those cards' intended audience, but it does help play into the zomg Fermi is teh powerhungry beast bad juju.

no, many people were talking about the deep dive event. He was claiming that there would be amazing benchmarks and information revealed at it, which, well, didn't actually occur. Seriously, please link to any post he has ever made that has actually had confirmed information, or just stop...

seriously, i mostly read Zed_X's xtremesystems posts for their comedic content. To say he has been pretty reliable you need to point out something he has claimed ahead of time that was then subsequently confirmed... all I see is unending nvidia boosterism. Of course perhaps that satisfies your...

hah, I don't think that's likely to happen - except in a minor way. as has been pointed out here before, AMD needs profit desparately, and nvidia's manufacturing costs for the Fermi look to be very high. It will likely be in neither's interest to engage in anything more than a little price...

since I can't sleep I'll post the latest rumours - Fudzilla is claiming 20% chip yields currently, and that the gf100 is 20% faster than the 5870. http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/17205/1/ fud is a bit more reputable than a poster on an internet gaming forum, but not by too much ;)

it has a compelling 40% lead in HeatMark 2010? given that speculations in this thread have ranged all over the map, the reality of it must lie somewhere inline with some of that. otherwise, anyone who really knows anything is bound by nda or professional courtesy. oh, I too am dieing to know...

their putative 2009 launch date... or you must know that is what he meant, and are making the counter claim that they did not know that they wouldn't be able to deliver. That seems unlikely, that they had no idea at all how far behind they were. Maybe they hoped to squeeze in some cards before...
