Folding@home Beyond3D_Team - Summer 2023 Call for NVidia RTX users

Today I hit "leet" status! :D Thought I'd share the goofy screencap...

    Windows 11 [2021]

Yeah man, what the hell? I'd love to know why they thought this was a good idea. I mean, I could understand if it was a list of known malware, however that wouldn't be blocked by name -- it would be blocked by some sort of hash signature. The dumbest thing possbiile is to block an unwanted app...

Speculation and Rumors: Nvidia Blackwell ...

Ugh. Already time to upgrade the folding rig?!? :(

    RDNA3 Efficiency [Spinoff from RDNA4]

Yeah, it'll be more interesting when we have the entire gamut of STRX parts to review and analyze. Until then, one data point is not a pattern, even if it does possibly hint at a direction.

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2024]

Let's also talk anti-competition, which often shows up in conversations around "storefronts" like the recent Apple lawsuits from the EU. Steam is the reason my little boy can play Space Engineers with me, a game which was only ever made for Windows, and he plays it from an Ubuntu 23 machine...

Folding@home Beyond3D_Team - Summer 2023 Call for NVidia RTX users

Oof, woke up this morning to the Fedora rig still running at ~20MPPD. The 3080 is cranking out around 8M, the cooler of the two 4070's is only rolling out about 7M, and the hotter of the 4070's is crawling at 4M. Ugh. Just the two 4070's with normal temps can crank out more than 25MPPD by...

Folding@home Beyond3D_Team - Summer 2023 Call for NVidia RTX users

Good news: the extra 9-pin (PSU) to 8-pin (PCIe) cables arrived today, as expected. I was able to get my 3080Ti plugged in and powered up, and after only fighting Fedora for a handful of minutes, got Coolbits working on all three cards. Bad news: so it turns out having 520 watts of video card...

    Intel XeSS anti-aliasing discussion

Yeah, more important than the scaling factors is whether the image quality holds up with the "extra upscaling." Hence why I'd like to give it a shot :)

    Intel XeSS anti-aliasing discussion

Would like to try XeSS 1.3 on my old 1070MQ laptop; I was pretty happy with XeSS 1.2 in Cyberpunk on that rig. I guess I shouldn't hold my breath for the patch tho :/

Nvidia Geforce Drivers Release Announcement thread

Temperature vs fan curves are something you probably won't find in the stock driver profiles, even the cool newer stuff that NVIDIA has been replacing GeForce Experience with. For anyone who wants to get really fine-grained control over their system fans (including GPUs), I wholeheartedly...

Mod mode: it's probably best if we don't focus on trying to define political land mines like "woke" in this thread. There's never been a proper definition of the word provided anywhere that I've found, and even if one were to surface, I suspect it's going to be strongly aligned to political...

    Steam

Honestly, we don't even know if this ephemeral "licensing server" method uses APIs, or some get / post SOAP method, or something far jankier like pure protocol / port calls (I've written some of that in my prior life.) A standard API spec would be great, however I wager there's no current...

    Steam

Mod mode: Keep it civil. Back to regular posting mode: I'm in the Shifty Geezer camp on this topic. Just because "it's only a few bucks" doesn't make it right. There shouldn't be an imaginary minimal threshold on taking someone's money for thing, and then taking the thing away. This really...
