So I pop on to Xbox.com to let my XBL Friends know I'm not going to be around for a while. When I click "new message" this pops up.

And everything is fine because that's the way it's been for a long time. Curses.

This was for online messages, or offline?

Should it make a difference? The end result is the same.
It's not like Silver members can't access the Xbox.com Marketplace...

Sending test messages via Xbox.com has ALWAYS been a benefit of a Gold membership. Been like that since 2006 or so.
