XBox Clones

Has there been any discussion on whether or not we would see any 3rd parties releasing clones of the XBox hardware? In my uneducated opinion the XBox and the first IBM personal PCs share the same achilles heel, in that most of what is inside has been bought from the open market. Help me out here...

The CPU and motherboard are nothing different
The Video is DirectX-ish
The Audio may have some nVidia proprietary
The protection scheme has already been broken by a MIT student

What's left?

The motherboard is very different then standard PC parts. Ownership rights to the NV2A and motherboard are exclusive to Nvidia no doubt.

The xbox utilizes an optimized version of DirectX. This is implemented via XDK.

Audio device rights are most likely owned by Dolby.

The protection scheme has nothing to do with lisence rights for manufacturing and designing said parts.

I don't think it's the hardware that's the problem - it's the proprietry boot code and OS that they can't copy.
