both cards are boring because theres no software that warrents the need for anything beyond a 9800 pro. more aa and af are not worth the money.

you all act like the r520 will be some huge leap. all it will be is an r420 with sm 3.0 and 20 to 50% higher performance. there will be no software that warrents purchasing that card either.

slightly better, but pci express, meaning you can spend $400 for a for those cards plus a mobo upgrade, or you can just get an agp 6800/x800.

hovz is right. Plus you know as soon as you buy one of these cards they will be like $200 cheaper 6 months from now.

In my opinon, you would have to play like 30+ hours a week to get your moneys worth out of one of those cards, and that would be a pretty unhealthy, unproductive, waste of time.

I dunno, I ended up selling a $300 card (6800nu) to get a $400 card (6800GT) because it was the difference in Far Cry for me between buttery smoothness when things get intense at 10x7 2aa/8af and ditto at 12x10 4aa/16af.

    I found that worthwhile. YMMV.

There are AGP versions planned for both cards though (6600/X700) though you'd have to wait a while for those. Beginning of December (6600 GT Agp) if the delivery dates at http://www.komplett.se/k/kl.asp?bn=10413 are valid. They're unconfirmed though so they're probably wrong :)

True, but once you give up on sleeping it's easy to fit it in. :)

That's what i thought until i bought one. I just can't play anything without AA anymore now!
1280x960 4xAA 8xAF is just great. (Monitor can't handle 1600x1200 and still stay sharp)

They're supposed to arrive next week down here. Australia getting hardware first? What is the world coming to! Next thing we know, Bush will do something sensible.

Come on Hovz, ALL the highend cards are about screen size. When i can play Doom3 at 2048/1536 then ill have a mans card. untill then ill just keep upgrading. LCDs are at 1600/1200 and anybody who realy likes to game is at a 21in CRT. Upgrade your monitor, then you will understand

karlotta if u have the extra money to spend on a top of the line card, good for you. im not trying to criticize anyones purchase, but the fact is besides the just released everquest 2 theres no game that needs more than a 9800 pro unless u want driver level features.

No. i want/need higher res. Hell if i was on a old 15in CRT then ya , i could just be on a Radeon vivo. Its about screen size. or like this: res/fps= enjoyment. Maybe you just care about the minimun rendering to play. For me its about having more than i need , so i can play the game the way it was dreamed by the Dev. Its like the 9700pro is the best Q3 card. Untill you want to play mods and at higher than 1280/1024. SHARP is GOOD.

well i can play every game at at least 1024 x 768 res at maximum details at smooth fps so thats good enough for me. dont rly care about eq2 cuz mmorpgs are the ultimate in redundancy.

i dont find hacking and slashing to level up for 50 hours where the only thing that changes is the environment u do it in enjoyable. mmorpgs are basically rpgs minus everything that makes an rpg fun(story, cool factor, chracter development etc.)

Just because you dont care about them doesnt make them irrelevent to everyone else.

CR.. he said MMORPGS are redundant to him .. not to anyone else. :)

It's also redundant to me since I don't have an internet connection at home. I enjoy playing RPG's and FPS though.

Actually he did say the software wasnt important. And he's been beating that bush for a while now. Just because he finds software "irrelevent" doesnt mean it is to others. Everquest 2 IS a game that wont run well on my 9800 Pro or my FX 5900.
