Hmmm its more like what would the owner of a 6800 class hardware get out of that .

Better iq , and noticing the step back the 6800 class hardware is in terms of fsaa.

Well since I've gone from R3xx to NV40 and haven't noticed (or maybe just claim not to so I can say Nvidia is better  ) I'll just have to wait till I make the transition again for a comparison.

Triniboy- Have you tried going back to your R3xx from your nV40 since getting it to compare?

    Not baiting, just curious.

If you own Condition Zero, the AK is perfect for seeing the effect of TAA in motion. Normaly, even at 1600x1200 and 2xAA, the part were the barrel emerges from the gun has some nasty looking alising crawling along it as the gun bobs to simulate breathing; turn on TAA and try again and you will see it looks a whole lot better.

    My main irritation is this.

I am tired of the spin spin spin spin. I didnt appriciate it when Nvidia did it and I dont appriciate it with Ati either.

I gave ATi the benefit of the dount because They said they were going for speed. Yet they are not clear speed champs. not even close. They are *barely* holding their own and reducing Quality to do so.

Play the game to win or go do something else. I am Tired of empty party tricks and meaningless Rhetoric. Make the fastest card for gaming today if you say thats what you are about or dont. Dont say you are then basically phantom release for months on end a card that is *Clearly* suspiciously underperforming where it should be on the stat sheet.

I just wish that ATi would stop the freaking BS. I like their products.

But if you have a company to run and have to pay salary to your workers, you'll have to be present at the market as good as you can. If it means you have to fill the gaps between gens with whatever products in order to keep your company running, you'll be sure to do so.

So what is actually your problem? You're pissed off because company X didn't produce the holy grail of gfx, while company Y did? I'd love to have problems as big as yours, it would be a pretty careless life

HB...everything is about choices...ATI chose to go with the OEM stuff as DB as said..... and with very good cause. Yes, it would be nice if the X800 had all those bullet points, but it doesn't. However, it is very competitive in speed - hell, all the new products have excellent speed, and has better IQ. While the PR sucks - as does all PR in an industry IF you have a certain amout of knowledege - it still isn't in the league of nVidia. Not an excuse for it, but at least try to view these things objectively.

Fact of matter is, all the FB's seem to only be satisified if their favorite IHV absolutely destroys the compitition...... and yet that would be the absolute worst thing that could happen. Without the compitition, prices would be higher and performance would be lower. It's really best for all of us if these 2 companies leapfrog each other at each new product introduction.... if nothing else it keeps each other on their respective toes.

The X800 and the 6800's are very competitive with each other - except at the $300 price point....... If anything the real standout - for the money - is the GT....... but I personally would spend the extra $50.00 on a X800XT.... because, like DW, I'm a true IQ whore. I'd easily give up 3.0 support for 6xT FSAA..... but that's my thing.

Can you please post examples of them lowering image quality ?

Secondly can you please show me a site with fsaa and aniso that shows the x800xt pe loosing to another card in less than 75% of the benchmarks ?

Fact of the matter is all these tests with 4x fsaa and 16 aniso or 8 aniso is in nividias favor. THe reason for that is because ati can have the same quality as nvidia's 4x fsaa with thier 2xt fsaa .

THe problem are the sites that seem to have brushed that fact under the table.

trinibwoy, can you at least now admit that more than just jvd and I have seen the benifits of TAA? You have complained many times about my "championing" ATI. Yet I've never seen you complain about - or even comment on - the problems associated with the 6800's.... ie. texture ailising and the fact the the video processing it was supposed to have is broken. I personally am disappointed in the video processing - it's pretty much put me in a position to replace my 6800nu - it's in my theater room HTPC - when nVidia (or ATI) get it right. However, it's the texture ailising that really gets me down. Maybe if I didn't have a X800 sitting right next to the 6800 it wouldn't be a big deal - except I complained about it while I still had my 9800P! I commented in my first post on the subject...and it's still a problem and nVidia hasn't even mentioned it. Maybe, like TAA, it's just something you don't see.........

And you want to know what? If you don't see it, that's OK. Just like my friend that can't see any benefit of using AF or FSAA....he doesn't see it. I've spent time with him, showing him onscreen the differences. He see them when pointed out..... BUT still doesn't think it's a big deal. While you may not go as far as he does, I can truly believe you don't see TAA, and maybe even the texture ailising. But, again, just because you don't "see" them doesn't mean they arn't there. And this is where I have a problem with you. You complain I "champion" ATI, yet you constantly post your opinion as if it's a fact and usually try to put someone down as a result of you conclusion. You can't seem to open your mind to the possibility that maybe someone sees things differently than you - at least where ATI & nVidia are concerned.

martrox in regards to your friend . Go over to his house and have him put on 4x fsaa and 16 aniso and have him play with it for a few days .

Once his eyes adjust to it have him go bcak to none .

I had to do this with my friend who didn't understand why i bought the x800xt pe .

After 2 weeks he bought an x800xt pe .

Hehe...tried that jvd........ The thing is, it's all mental. If you convince yourself that it's the best, then it is. If you don't open your frame of references up to inspection, then you never have to change your opinions.....

Now, the trick is to realize just how objective you can be. ie. the ol' viewing life through shades tinted by your own perception........ 8)

We all fool ourselves........constantly! I ended up having to buy both the 6800GT/ at U settings and the X800P/at XT-pe settings to try and gain some objectivity..... Both are great cards, but the ATI has the IQ advantage at 4xT/6xT. It's obvious enough that I am always on the ATI card - Cause I PLAY GAMES!
When friends come over to play....they get the 6800. Which is far better than what I get to play on at their places!

The problem is; none of the reviewers have mentioned this problem (correct miiw) and the majority of 6800 users don't complain about it, heck, even denying it's there (some fanboys). Why should Nv solve this? I'll bet their (AF) performance goes down if they do, the last thing they want.

You can even lower the treshhold fps further down. I am using TAA with my 9800pro and I have set the TAA threshold to 40 fps.

Actually Martrox, when I first came to these boards, that was precisely the feeling I had after reading a couple of threads.

Ok, I reckon I can see that. You were pretty much expecting 4 9700 cores on one chip if I recall, and the reality IS a little disapointing compared to that. :(

I guess I just haven't been paying as much attention to the hype this time around by either side, I had the luxury of just being able to play with 'em both myself and see for myself....and I would be lying if I didn't say that both of the two top-end cards just flat-out amaze me.

For me either card represents unlimited graphic power, for all intents and purposes for me right now, and I just can't see people being disapointed getting either card.

To be honest with you, I think you're overreacting. Of course others have commented that they notice the difference - just that you and jvd are the ones that seem to really put stock in it. I just reread my posts and in my opinion you reacted a little violently considering what I had said. To your above points I never saw the texture aliasing issue (maybe I'm going blind) and I can't be disappointed in a feature that I don't care about. I don't use Digital Vibrance either so if it doesn't work - so what.

I don't recall claiming you don't see it - just that I don't. I also didn't try to convince you that you were seeing things. As far as ATI vs nVidia - the only issue I've had a strong opinion on regarding the IHV's is the feasibility of SLI. And that won't even be IHV specific for long. I would concede that my posting style might be a bit assertive but that's how I am in real life too.

    Which is exactly the problem.

It is a feature of the r300 - r420 hardware and it does make an improvement in image quality Which sm 3.0 does not .

Yet no one seems willing to talk about it as once you do you will notice that ati is shot strait into a clear victory in terms of performance and image quality.

Nvidia simply can't compete with temporal . They need to use twice the samples as ati to get the close to the same image quality .

Whats nvidia going to do against 6x temporal which looks much better than nvidia's 8x fsaa. Even 4x temporal looks much better than nvidia's 8x fsaa . Then you consider that 2x temporal looks as good as 4x fsaa and that ati will score much higher with 2x temporal than nvidia will with 4x fsaa and you will see that in all games but doom3 (or even doom3 if u set the threshold low enough) ati has the speed victory .

That is why nvidia fans like to pass over it .

The reasons why reviewers pass over it is because its subjective as you can't take a screen shot of it

But it is a real feature and it does produce real results and its a shame people are brushing it off .

ANy feature that gives almost twice the image quality at the lower image quality's speed is a great feature .
