    Depends on how much better.

My need is proportional to my feeling of anticipated completeness obtained through upgrading.

(IOW, no, I have no need. Just desire. NWN2 is kinda pokey, and it'd be nice to have something quicker)

If its "oh yeah, 2x as fast!", then I'm sold. If its "meh, 20% faster on paper", well, I'll wait.

Actually more like 1.5-1.7 times faster-ish I'd guess depending. What games are you playing, what resolutions, and what eye-candy do you like?

Look at X1950PRO AGP reviews. Several of these (FiringSquad, off the top of my head, for one) has a comparison to both a X8x0-series and a 7800GS AGP (add ~20% to get roughly a vanilla 7800GT). Probably the closest match and widest spread of cards you'll get in recent reviews.

It is definitely worth to wait another month or two, when the mainstream and low-end DX10 cards will be available.

My guess is you're looking at comparable framerates at one resolution bump higher. To me that's not worth an upgrade, especially with DX10 cards so close. Even if you wait six months before you buy one, I don't think you'll get enough value out of a 7800GT in that time to be worth $140.

In the immortal words of Getty Lee: "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."

(in other words, I think I'll pass. I've just bought a Wii and a 4000+, so I can't justify $$$ on a video card right now)

I just sold my Middle-earth CCG set and I'm tempted to buy a 8800 GTS/GTX because of the performance boost it would give NWN2 over my 1950 XTX. That or a 360. Kinda torn and that spare $$$ is saying, "Spend me before the wife gets ahold of me!"

Lol. I would wait for DX10 personally. Budget or no those are close enough that DX10, even if its implemented on a slower card, will be more beneficial over the long-haul.

A Core 2 Extreme (2.93GHz). Had a GTS offered to me today from a co-worker's husband for $300. Tempting, but being the uber geek I am I'm also considering buying Atlas Games' entire Ars Magica 5th ed. product line.

Month or two waited. No mainstream DX10 cards.

My passively cooled x800xl died (apparently).

    Now I'm in need.

    7800GS?
    7900gs?

Something for $100 and then upgrade afterwards?

X1900GT for $129 at Newegg right now if you want to go that route.

    Come on...
After waiting all these months, you're telling me that you can't bring yourself to hold on for another couple of weeks ? ;)
