Win updates : automatic retry

I have Win7 x64 and I was updating my computer when it hit some stupid proxy issues and the update process barfed. Consequently, many updates failed to install. I am no longer behind a proxy and my internet connection is just fine now.

How do I get WIn7 to retry those updates? There are a lot of them and I don't want to dl them manually.

Whuh? Just open windows update; the updates should already be selected, click the "install updates" button.

Downloading should commence, followed by install, and then with near 100% certainty, the almost inevitable reboot (because after fifteen fucking years, MS still hasn't figured out how to unload an API library from memory and then reload the updated version).

In my update history, there are dozens of failed updates while the update tool only shows me 1 update pending.

It is the failed updates I want to fix.

Stop the Windows Update service -> rename/delete [drive]:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution -> reboot -> try updating again. This tend to clear up such issues in my experience.
