That Pirate gaming is looking very good. I wonder when they can render real (pipe)waves, a good looking surfgame would be nice ;)

From trailers RE4 water looks awesome, otherwise MGS2:SoL's water effects were impressive for its time, wait for MGS3.

Midway is not for a while yet :( (2006 or something :?: )
They're currently busy making the space realtime tactical fleetsim Nexus:The Jupiter Incident aka Beyond aka Imperium Galactica 3 aka Galaxy Andromeda (expected out Oct/Nov) which uses the same game engine (more or less) & has some nice water but only seen from a loooooooong way away at the closest ie from orbit

Is EQ2 the only almost current title that has anything realistic in terms of what happens when people actually wade through water (ie, waves, not just particles)?

giants did it to a certain extent. and i think turok (the first one) did, at least when you shot the water. can't remember if it also reacted to wading through it. ut2003/2004 does it on some maps. most of the 2003 maps that have water do it, but some 2004 maps strangly do not.

Dark Alliance (& the other games that use the same engine) appear to use this effect, though I'm not sure it qualifies as "current" (seeing as how DA was released 2-3 years ago, I think...)

Ah..yes. Very good. Now I actually remember playing that game. My only complaint is that it's too damn clear....like I said earlier, I think Far Cry's water is way too clear.

Who woulda thought that water around tropical islands would be really clear?

In fact, Far Cry's water looks just like the water in the tropical island picture I have as my desktop background... :p

Yes, and so does the water everywhere in it...like puddles of mud and stuff in caves. The water around the island I'll give you.....but to have only one type is kinda ridiculous. I thought halo looked more realistic.

Where ocean water is concerned, I think Halo has got that done. However, that's assuming that there are particles in the water to cloud it and keep you from seeing straight through it.
I personally think Far Cry's water is just too perfect. No ripples or waves or anything of the sort. No floating particles... nothing. Just a refraction effect with reflections heaped on top. Just my opinion.
