The terminology used in the first post is the same as used by ATI. For example:

    3x1 Portrait Display Group

I think that should end any discussion.

I think the 5:1 bit should have pointed you in the right direction (as in 5 horizontal or columns, 1 vertical or rows).

It's better than 6:1 or 4:1 because you don't have bezels in the middle of the screen, where windows pop up (or crosshair in games).

5x1 landscape won't happen until the 8k pixel limitation is removed (display groups are limited to 8k on an axis).

    5x1 portrait is promised soon.

mixed landscape and portrait modes are in the works. currently all displays will be set to the same resolution, using the lowest common denominator. So you can't mix landscape and portait modes, or use different native resolutions in the same display group, i.e. for portrait 1680x1050 either side of a 2560x1600 landscape.

You're forgiven. Simon & Davros were also confused. You guys forgot how to read on-axis coordinate planes? :)

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but it's less than 3x2. It's also a much better aspect ratio than regular 3x1 Eyefinity, especially given that the majority of cheap LCD monitors are 16:9. Should be pretty cool for flight sims, as the bezels will make it like cockpit windows.

I wish devs would make display resolution different from rendering resolution. Then you could have text and the HUD look sharp while rendering at a lower resolution with high AA and scale it up.

    I'm always confused ;)
now I'm confused about this "5x1 landscape won't happen until the 8k pixel limitation is removed (display groups are limited to 8k on an axis)."

dont ati allready support 5x1 landscape ?

So now its monitors arranged in a 5:1 horizontal configuration and orientated in the portrait orientation? I see! It looks like I need to catch up with the lingo!

Arma 2 works this way. It can also render at higher resolution than the monitor.

Yes, because the other way would be 1x5 landscape and bad for the neck :)

One of the top dogs at ATI said eyefinity is being developed to eventually work as a holodeck of sorts with a monitor on each face of a cube (that is why 6). So I think all these other alterations will be easy if they can eventually sort out a real holodeck.

5 monitors in an arc shape would surely rock, but I hope first we have monitors with ZERO bezel, not just a slim bezel.

As I said, that will require explicit developer support (they will need to render multiple views).

Aye, and the terminology for a Portrait "surface" would be 1x3 (or 1x5 in the case of this discussion).

Portrait or landscape denote the orientation of each of the monitors comprising the surface. 3x1 (landscape) and 1x3 (portrait) would denote the orientation of the display "surface."

Hopefully that's true. It would certainly make my day in a big way. :) Would be sad to lose the 24" in portrait on the end but the benefits for being able to continue to game on my work machine would be fantastic.

    Regards,
    SB

Still no 5x1 Portrait supported, even though it was at computex, fail boat.

Seconded! That'd be the ideal environment both for work and for gaming - IMHO.
