As per the title, what is the best board for the least amount of cash?

Also whats the best board, if you were only looking to spend approx £50---not alot of cash etc but there must be something out there, not top line I agree, but still pretty good for a casual gamer?

That's pretty tight budget. AGP or PCIE?

Actually I'm about to have an MSI x300 for sale :) it was a stop gap while I awaited my x1800 but I've no idea if it has much 3d capability at all. PM if interested.

If you're lucky, you can find a used 9700-9800 Pro for that price, if you look hard enough.

I kinda went there too, but ebay didn't look too hopeful. I think you'd have to look pretty hard. I also went 9600xt in my head, which should be a little easier.

But then I realized he hadn't said what slot, and "cheap" doesn't necessarily mean "old" --he could have a newish pcie pc that game with integrated graphics, for instance, and now he's looking to move up.

You could almost certainly get a 9700 Pro for that (used) and they're still quite respectable. AGP of course.

Why not save more and buy a decent, real card instead:?:

I like my 6800. Well, at least after I replaced the blasted heatsink/fan it comes with as standard...
