Add Mass Effect 1 & 2 to that list. The lighting is very primitive, a lot of the texture work is atrocious, and they don't even support MSAA

They don't have to look like Crysis (2007) for crying out loud but it's like they're not even trying.

Whoa swaaye where did your post go? !

Too true. And the story I get from the 'lil ones' is long in the tooth and quite frustrating to me.

"Oh! Why do you care for graphics so much? I don't, It's the game play that matters"

Or along those lines. I've got news for those console kiddies: Better IQ is not going to ruin your game play! So stop grappling for the holy grail of graphics mediocrity. Please! Just stop!

    Oh, and Hi DW! :)

The shadowing in that game for the time was fantastic.

TIE Fighter hands down. X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter as well.
    Rome: Total War
Jedi Knight (1 not 2, liked it better)

Hmmm. LucasArts. We're looking at you. You don't even have to make a new game, just recreate the old ones :p

Gah, how could I have forgotten my beloved Dungeon Keeper, I still have both 1 and 2 in a hermetically sealed container to avoid the ravages of time.

Same goes for virtually all the original Worms games that were done in 2D. When they made the move to 3D they should have done 2D gameplay with 3D graphics rather than that hideous monstrosity Worms 3D (almost barfed saying that name).

Mmmmm, Myth: The Fallen Lords, the game that most faithfully recreated the "feel" of "The Black Company" trilogy of books albeit in a totally different setting and story. :) Definitely wouldn't mind that one updated in graphics. It's still the first game that truly made me appreciate Physics modeling in a game. Woo woo for interactive physics and seeing how far up (and thus how long it would take to land) you could blow body parts with dwarven satchel charges.

    Regards,
    SB

Damn right! I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned sooner. (Also seconding the NoLF and Blood 1(!) suggestions earlier.)

Yeah in a previous thread with the same topic I also thought of Descent as a cool game for modern day motion controls. Personally I'd really like to see a Descent on PS3 that would be controlled with two move controllers. Could be incredibly awesome. Alternative would be giving the same treatment to G-Police.

Imagine having one hand to laterally move your ship in any direction in space, and the other for turning it into any direction in space, and then having two pressure sensitive buttons on each hand for the various weapons and such. It would blow my mind.

Everything on that game was and still is fantastic, the lighting, the shadowing, the water, the fighting, the gore, man I replayed it SEVEN times strait (and still play it because of the modding scene), start to finish when I bought it, no other game made me do that after Severance, two times is the most that other games made me play them, the last good ack&slash on PC and perhaps on all platforms .

Why other company's don't try to make a similar game i don't know, the Elveon guys were trying but it seams that game is dead also.

ps: severance runs under xp not sure about vista/win7

If you have Descent 2 get d2-xl (opengl port of d2) and you can play descent in it
    http://www.descent2.de/d2x-descent1.html

edit: just tried severance in vista
if you select directsound3d hardware the game crashes
I tried directsound3d 7 +software pan and volume and that worked (havnt tried the rest)
game works ok although you cant see what menu option you have selected so there is a bit of guesswork (maybe compatibility settings will fix this)
