Things I've regretted buying:

Everything for the 360. I've cancelled my XNA subscription, because I don't think I"ll get around to creating anything for a good while. And I'll certainly won't get an XNA subscription again before I wrote something on PC first.

Next year, things either look up or I'm cancelling my Live subscription as well, as I'm really not using it at all anymore. I've considered cancelling it a few times before, but this time it will definitely happen.

Gears, I really didn't like it.

Everyday Shooter: really didn't play it
Pain Movie Pack: it hasn't clicked with me like the other environments have.
Echochrome: just didn't click with me
Super Stardust Team Pack: haven't had any occasion to use it unfortunately. Solo pack on the other hand is 100% awesome, one of the best game extensions ever.
Brain Challenge:

GTA4: although sort of a must have, I never got into it. It might still eventually happen though.

LocoRoco2: love the game, but I sort of regret I didn't get the UMD disc release because it's 1.6GB. But it's ok, I can see a 8GB MS coming soon. ;)

There are definitely some games on the list from 2008 that I"ll be getting in 2009 at reduced price or in a slow month, but in general to me this was an interesting year with online game purchases really hitting it off on PSN and almost overtaking my retail purchases. Hope to spend my money even more wisely next year (hopefully some more good 360 games and less services ;), and look forward to PSN overtaking retail, though of course good BD releases are always welcome too! ;) - Uncharted 2 for instance! ) And of course like I played a lot of games I bought late 2007 in 2008, there's a bunch of games from this year I'll very likely still be playing lots in 2009.

I love these threads because they really show the disconnect, or diacotomy between gamer groups and how difficult it is to define 'casual' or 'hardcore', etc..

And this list, as small as it is, represents a rather large increase in the number of games bought compared to what I had bought previously for the PS1 or PS2 or Xbox.

Normally, I'd buy one or maybe two games a year for my console. This year, that has more than doubled. Although I will admit part of that is due to my rapid decline in PC gaming. I'd normally buy 2 or 3 PC games a year and this year, I didn't buy a single PC game.

I always look for deals. All were bought new except Too Human and BF:BC which I bought used and sold for what I paid. I sold my Rock Band 1 set for $100 and bought RB2 for $109 due to a Toys'R US special did an even swap for the extra copy of RB2 I had for GH:WT. LBP was bought for cheap when I was in Europe. One of these days, I'll even open it and play it! but I still need to go through Fallout 3 and Banjo first. Another year of too many games and not enough time! Hopefully in 2009 the PS3 and the Wii can actually put out stuff that interests me and justify my purchase.
