water drop full screen effect

Hi all,

I am very interested about the water droplet full screen effect. It has been used in several games. (Metal Gear, Crysis…) It is the effect when you come out of the water, some water drops show up and fadeout on the camera.

I am curious how it is done. I guess for the effect in Crysis, they simply use a noise texture to offset the back buffer? but how to make the animated water drop effect?

Is there any document to explain such effect?

Thanks!

It's one of those abstract modern art things, just a blank canvas because the idea is more important than the painting itself.

You really havent got the hang of posting images have you ;)

I would render some red and black squares with some text underneath :D

Just finish reading the article. Seems a bit heavy for games. Is this the standard way to do this or is there a better method?

I recall the ATI Toyshop demo had a similar effect - they were able to achieve realtime effects just fine. It might be worth looking for papers about that. Natasha Tartarchuk was, I think, the name of the lead developer on the ATI Toyshop demo.
