Odds are the analysis in Toronto will be:you need the latest drivers, you need a new psu, you need to take care of AGP, you need the latest drivers, you need a new psu, you need to take care of AGP:|

Sorry, but I`m having a completely brain-dead exchange with ATi support, and I had to get that off my chest. I asked a very specific question, and they give me the above crap answers...yeah, I should take care of AGP IN MY FRIGGIN PCI-EXPRESS SYSTEM, I should solder the darned thing so that your recommendations apply,no?:|

Well installed Vista today and these drivers. Ran AO much nicer, removed a lot of hitching because of Vista memory management. Unfortunately the drivers remove some of my resolutions, including 1440x900 which I use to run some games in windowed mode on my 1680x1050 widescreen LCD. I remove the ATI drivers and the resolutions return. Tried with just PnP monitor driver and the latest Samsung driver from their site, plus what Vista pulled as well.

Same thing happened with 6.10 and the resolutions suddenly appeared back again in 6.12 thankfully. Now they're gone again with Vista 7.1 :( The builtin ATI drivers just don't run as well as the 7.1s but I can't do without my 1440x900 res.

edit: Fixed the resolution issue. Someone at rage3d gave me a inf file entry and reinstalled driver. Worked fine.

I've had a similar experience with CCC being slow as hell. Seems to take too long to load and maybe bogs down the system slightly. I did a complete ATI driver clean and just installed the 7.1 display driver only...I am gonna skip CCC this time. My x800 XT PE is running smooth as silk and the system seems to like ithe change as well.

First load is right at 7 seconds, second is basically instant.

    System:

    Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 2.8GHz, 2GB RAM, X1950 Pro, 320GB Seagate (Perpendicular, so its fast).

It was a bit longer and never instant on XP like it is under Vista however. Also, when open it performs much better in Vista than it does in XP. Also, the installer in Vista is SO much better than XPs.

Vista have superfetch which might greatly affect the time that ccc needs to load, even from a fresh windows start. Vista remember which apps you use most and load them into the memory as soon as the OS starts, so if you try to load them later on, those apps are already loaded into memory which makes them load instantly.

Running Vista RC2 (still), with the 7.1's installed in my A64 3700 San Diego (@2.79GHz), x1950 Pro AGP system (stock), initial CCC opening is 2-3 seconds. Of course, after that (cached), it's nearly instantaneous. I noticed a big difference in initial startup times between Vista and XP, running the 7.1's. Vista is much faster for CCC--which makes sense when you think about it.
