I had no idea why the previous topic was locked...????

Emotion Synthesis? It's a catch-phrase for what you've seen in MGS2, SH3, FFX or any upper-tier game that has very fine meshes applied to characters faces and are used to express emotion graphics, as you couldn't in the previous generation.

That is quite generous of you, ya?

Back then, Sony basically kept harping on the ability to render super computer SGI workstation high quality graphics, seen in movie production, that models real world emotion and physics, all on PS2, in a realtime game. :?

As for SH3/FFX/MGS facial polygon manipulating, 1999 PC/DC games had that, i dont see the deal here. Mind you, Sony didnt just say PS1, but PS2 will generate tEh emOti0ns that current technology cannot. Right!

These comments doesn't seem to bear out "Not just Toy Story, but Hollywood quality effects, 50X the DC, technologically supreme for 6-8 years" comments. So, you holding them back, common Chap.

"Sony's press material released today sums it up nicely: "Imagine walking into the screen and experiencing a movie in real-time... this is the world we are about to enter."

"The rendering function was enhanced to generate image data that supports NTSC/PAL television, High Definition Digital TV and VESA output standards. The quality of the resulting screen image is comparable to movie-quality 3D graphics in real time"

Sony used the peak polygon rate of PS2 and charted it up with DC 3mpps, commented on how much powerful PS2 is. Too bad that was not a fair comparison and we all know theory/realworld is not all lovey dovey.

As for the last one, i couldnt find the actual powerpoint used during the 1999 unveiling anymore. The best i could find is this part article, which you have to pay to read the full one.

Maybe archie had it saved somewhere, since he was with Square. Or Fafie who went for that conference.

Beyond that, his comments seem more geared towards the PS3 forward with non-polygonal rendering - which is inevitable at some point in the future.

Why would it be geared towards PS3 when PS2 isnt even announced yet. Isnt he hyporitical to bash Silicon Valley R&D, especially when you look at how PS2 turned out to?

Looking back now, its hard not to give the hype crown to Sony. Im sure the PS2 apologists will want to play with words and point out that oh Sony is just focusing on separate PS2 strengths(high bandwidth, high CPU etc etc).

But when you take it as a whole picture(as what Sony intended) and the final PS2 performance, you can easily say that Sony is selling more hype than substance.
