Um, what? "Aero Glass graphics" in future AMD CPUs

Don't tell me AMD will implement a minimal "GPU" set (basically PS2 fragment pipes) to make Aero Glass run entirely on the CPU? Shade me baffled, both because it's listed on only their high and low end parts (X2 and Sempron) and because it's listed as available starting H1 '06 (far sooner than I thought Longhorn would appear). Heck, even if this were true, how would they get the signal to the monitor, having obviated the need for a separate GPU or even IGP?

Does this just mean they'll include some extra hooks for an IGP? Why does the Sempron listing include an "Express?" And why isn't Aero Glass listed for the A64/FX, Mobile, or Opteron parts?

Weird. Then again, this is just a rumor, AFAIK, and subject to the usual editorial blunders.

I would assume a chipset feature?
Or maybe an alteration to the memory controller required for graphic memory virtualisation?

I was wondering this today also...

Anyone have any insight as to what this is?

It was mentioned in a few of the slides with no explaination anywhere.

Thanks, Tim. Crystal clear now. But someone teach AMD how to anti-alias their fonts already! :p
