Trying to Delete Partition w. WinXP SetuP CD: Hangs on "Please Wait..." Help?

Hi! I'm trying to delete partitions on some old drives, by booting with the Windows XP CD in the drive and using its setup utility to delete the selected partitions...but it always hangs on "please wait..." So - nothing happens!

I can access the files and folders on these drives just fine once booted, so the drives haven't gone bad.

What's up? Any ideas?

Thanks! :)

Is it a RTM XP CD? That might be your problem as the original partition manager was rather limited given the size of even an old/small HD by today's standards (max 137GB). If so, slipstreaming a service pack to make a new boot-CD should do the trick.

Hello!

Thank you for your reply! :)

I cannot delete the partition from within XP, as the partition is listed as a "system" partition, despite the fact that I am actually booting and running XP from another drive entirely. It does (the old partition) have an old installation of XP on it, though.

No, it isn't an older version of the XP CD, this one is relatively new, SP 2 on it already.
