Surely you meant "for good reasons"?

SegaSaturn and PC got it around the same time (November 96?) followed closely by the PS version.

Yes :). Either way, if it turns out as buggy as TRL then it's a no-go. I still have yet to play that game properly on my 7800GTX :(...

Presumably then it was built around PC hardware at the time then ported to consoles? Or were the PC and Saturn versions developed simultaneously, thus the PS version was a port of the Saturn version?

According to IGN, the PS and Saturn versions both came out on Sept. 15th 1996, while the PC version came out on October 12th 1996.

I'll check tonight to see if my sales receipt is in the box. I bought it the first day it was released and I thought it was in early Nov. of '96, but not 100% certain on that.

Receipt reads Nov 19th, which was a Tuesday. Heh, included on it is $7.99 for an issue of Boot magazine and $6.95 for Strategy Plus (now Computer Games magazine). There's also a flyer in the box for Ian Livingstone's Deathtrap Dungeon (which sucked ass if memory serves).

I for one would like an honest re-make of the original TR using the latest graphics technologies. And I do mean "honest", with nothing changed except for better graphics. Most importantly, keep the original music - the original was incredibly atmospheric for me, mostly due to the music.

Ahem to that Rev - apart from some of the Lara sound effects, the overall audio package has easily stood the test of time as playing the TR disc in my CD player shows. You just know though that there's going to be wailing guitar solos going on with every boss fight in the new version...

You say that like there's something wrong with wailing guitar solos.

There isn't if you're playing a cheesy, gun-tastic, kill kill kill shooty game but Lara is bloody British! We just don't do that sort of thing - one must understand, it's just not cricket! What-ho!

As do I normally but as Rev pointed out, what made the first TR so special was the music (or more rather, the spaces left by the music).

the saturn version was definatley before the PS release, and if memory serves was about the same day as the PC version (same week?). i was pretty pissed at sony back then, because i bought a PS at launch (preorder it, in fact) and about 93 days after i purchsed it i had to play it upside down, and sony wanted $150 or something to fix it, so i bought a saturn instead. i remember being pretty happy everytime i heard anti-sony news, and the fact that sega was getting tomb raider first was big news. the pre-release buzz for the game was insane.

the first tomb raider is one of my favorite games. i'm looking forward to the remake.

Ahh yes, so much fun to be had locking that silly old waiter in the freezer or getting outside of the mansion grounds and listening to that whining old codger trying to get out and find me...

Those were the days...the days when consoles were 'OK' to have, let alone play, and games were all so awesome!

"I for one would like an honest re-make of the original TR using the latest graphics technologies"

you know there are replacement hi-res textures for tomb raider running under glidos..

Vastly improves the graphic quality from the standard game.
    32bit colour
Support for high definition texture packs (see Tomb Raider Xtra).
    Wide screen mode for laptops.
    Improved Direct3D support.
Support for 32bit Vista, using VDos32
Simpler texture pack support with equivalence files.
Support for audio packs, restoring the haunting sound tracks from the original Play Station version of Tomb Raider.
