Ti-4200 to 7600GS upgrade, compare, benchmarks

    OK, the Asus V8420 Ti-4200 is replaced by the MSI 7600GS AGP 256MB.
    And for those who like some strange reading and comparing, here goes.

    System is an Asus P4PE with a Intel P4 2.54GHz socket 478, no o/c.
    Power Supply is Enermax EG365P-VE (350W, 26A 12V, 32A 3.3V and 5V).

    Numbers to the right refers to my notes/questions after the table.

    1) Note that the power draws from the wall outlet is less on 7600GS.
    And this is the power IN to the PSU (PC use is only about 70-80%)

    2) For some reason the CPU is colder. Strange since added heat from
    the 7600GS raises the case temp. Is this GPU taking more work?

    3) Air from PSU exhaust is cooler as well. Guess that comfirms 1) :)
    The PSU fan doesn't get as high RPS either (actually much lower)
    And that is with added heat from the 7600GS (the Ti-4200 had a fan
    with external exhaust so that heat dis not get into the case).

    4) Voltages min/max are higher. Suggests that there are less pull on
    PSU as voltages usually drop when PSU cannot deliver enough, or?

    5) With the Ti-4200 resolution and AA settings infuenced heavyly on
    FPS, the 7600GS gave the same FPS in all resolutions, even with
    4xAA and 16xAnistrophic. In the complicated HL2 area I could not
    get over 40-60, even at 640x480 with AA and Anistrophic off :-(
    Is this limitations of my system (CPU, RAM, bus speed, AGP 4x)?

    Yes. You are CPU limited, possibly memory limited too.

    CPU? I'm thinking more along the lines of RAM limited, 512MB is not much and I've seen HL2 on high settings take up more than that in a number of instances. That could also be the cause of your hitching issue.

    He'll probably still be CPU-limited even after he doubles his RAM, but 512MB surely isn't doing HL2 any favors.

    Nice chart. It reminded me to be annoyed about misplacing my Kill-A-Watt.
