And in related news, Warren Spector is out the door and Ion is no more. A hearty "thank you for finishing the game" from Eidos followed by a "get the f*ck out".

First words that came to my mind after reading this were WTF. Sad, really.

In other news, I really like Thief after the first two missions. It feels like a Thief-game. Too bad that I can't play it fhis weekend.

I'm wouldn't put too much faith in it till we hear it from Mr. Spector first, or at least an official Eidos statement.

:x I really hope this isn't true, I enjoyed some of his games and have been hoping that they'll let him do another Deus Ex game...

Though I think like the article points out, he's still needed to finish the tomb raider game, but I still feel bad for the rest of the crew that got the boot. Thankfully they have some impressive games which they worked on to put on a resume.

Back to Thief 3, much like Invisible War the game is slow with AA enabled. I need to upgrade this 9800 Pro to a X800 Pro or PE.

Try a Ti4200  Just finished the demo, and I had to run at 1024x768 with no aniso, no AA, no bloom, and shadow detail at like 70%.

This game does remind me a lot of DX:IW, beyond just the engine. The interface has the same "built for console" feel to it, and the movement is just overall kind of ackward (in first person, 3rd person is not too bad, but who wants third person Thief?).

The engine is slow, no doubt about that, and somewhat hurts the enjoyability of the game. And the console-ish feel of the game can be ameliorated with some easy .ini editing, which I've already done.

I'm on the 4th mission and I have to say this game is a true successor to the first two. Technical and interface issues aside, it's a well designed game.

Ugh, I tried the demo last night on 10x7 on a 2500+(2.2Ghz)/9700 pro(365/345) and it got mid-teens to single-digits for me!

Then I realized I had forced 4xAA & 8xAF w/vsync-on thru the control panel.

I was just about to give it another go with application control...

Yeah, the ultraghey mantling makes a return from DX:IW... :(
I realise movement is not supposed to be all QW, but the way Garret moves around objects is kinda annoying.
Yay for no inverted mouse in nightvision mode too...

What settings did you change? I reduced the font size, and played with MouseLagThreshold and MouseSensitivity and it helped a bit, but the interface still feels clunky and unpolished, and movement is still ackward at times. I think I'll disable the head bobbing and see if that helps. This is the same kind of unpolished PC experience DX:IW had on release; apparently they didn't learn from their mistakes very well.

Still, I will probably end up buying it just to see how the story plays out, even if it's not as enjoyable is it could be.

The T3UI.ini has a lot of settings for the interface that can be adjusted. Take a look at this thread for the details: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83310

I don't think the movement is ever going to be as tight as it should be, not with the 3rd person 'body awareness' design. Even in first person you can tell when Garrett hesitates as you first move it's because the model is doing its turn animation and reorienting itself in the new direction you're taking.

The game's been a lot of fun so far. I do wish, though, that the much touted, free roaming city sections were larger. . .they're nothing in size compared to the external Thief 2 missions.

Those tweaks really help. I'm starting to really get into the game. The only thing that is killing it for me now is the ridiculous "body awareness" garbage. It drives me nuts when I turn then try to move forward and my body slides to the right so my legs can catch up to my body. I don't feel like a cat-like thief at all. More like a bumbling clown.

I am glad still use some of the original voice talent though. Hearing Garrett and the Keeper guy talk brought me right back into the thief world. Hopefully I'll just learn to get over the clunky body movements or someway somehow they will offer a patch to turn it off.

The guys at nvnews tried the demo on a 6800 Ultra with nice results. It'll be interesting to see how a X800 does.

After playing the demo I broke down and bought the game. I'm only on the second mission so far (not counting training), so I can't say for certian, but yes, it doesn't seem to be nearly as action-oriented as the trailer made it out to be. Though the 10 fps certainly doesn't make it easy to creep up behind moving guards. And thus far, playing on the hardest difficulty, I still see no "do not kill anyone" requirements, though as I say I'm pretty close to the beginning and things may change.

Are you sure? I haven't got the full game but in the demo I could have sworn on expert there was a don't kill anyone requirement to complete the mission.

It was don't kill any innocents (servants, maids and so on). Guards, Hammerite priests, Pagans and whatnot seems to be fair game. From browsing TTLG (while trying to avoid spoilers) it seems to me that you *can* complete the game without killing anyone, it's just not a reqirement anymore.
