(i didn't see the graphs yet.)

So.. if the G71 is twice as fast as the G70, it will tie with the 1900XTX (33 vs. 16 fps, HQ)

    Hurah for triple shader output..
let's hope ati's gamble pays out..

But then again.. FEAR is the only game where it shows real power...

Without reading the whole thread, the performance doesn't seem to be "overwhelming"? From what I saw, it's not even always faster than the GTX 512. Do we have any software which can take advantage of all the shader power in there, even if just for testing purposes?

And a word from sireric posted at Rage3d on improve performance on X1900 with Cat 6.2beta

Well, FEAR is the only one that shows the real advantage of R580's setup, being twice as fast as the GTX at high res and HQ.
But the rest of the story is basically, the 512 is faster in Ogl, r580 is faster as soon as AA and AF are enabled, but then again, so is the R520 in comparison to the 512 in FEAR only..

I hope our friend Rys is not going to get into trouble. He's already got AMD after his hide with that cross eyed FX-60 photochop :D

Daves comment near the end of his review summed it up. Ati have put their eggs in one basket with the x3 shaders upgrade and it depends now whether they can get people to use this weighting of their chip to good effect. Personally I think it's likely to pay off, if it does so then this refresh part might have a longer life than most ( putting to one side Vista etc ) and make the cards a good bang per buck purchase either now or 6 months down the line.

I still cannot believe nvidia are going to go 32 "pipelines" and 700+MHz though that would be nice. Have they been outwitted again by Ati a la the 9700 as Dave asks questionally in his piece ?

I can't read Elitebastards at work, the title is too rude for it to risk the PC police watching the firewall traffic :)

I find it interesting that there are no new ATI demos to go with this card, ie ruby / toyshop.

Since there is little out there to really show off the cards pixel shader performance other than synthetic ps benchmarks, it would have made sense for ati to develop a new demo that does ... one that sets it appart from the 1800 range.

It looks good ... but i think my athlon 1900+/ 9800pro can hold out a while longer

I still believe nV will go to hell and back if needed just to stay on top, even if the cards should not be widely available as seen with gtx512.

ATI were showing off how much faster their Toy Shop demo performs on the X1900 over the X1800 at their product briefings...
