Why on one hand do most of these review sites go on about how Ati has finally done a real product launch etc etc.

Yet use a GTX 512 in all their testing with no mention at all to the truth that its just a show room floor model with virtually no availability and a ridiculous price? Why is Nvidia getting a pass on this?

Heh, 50Ginst/sec+ on ADD issue with XTX, just shy of peak, and MADD is bang on. Nice.

I think I'll have a play and see how instruction rate falls off with shader length (if at all, it should sustain it) with GPUBench, before fixing my shaders.

Thanks for the runs, Mike

Well, demand for 512 GTX should drop to ~ zero now so we'll see if the price follows

    1. Because it was available at launch unlike the X1800.
    2. Because it was announced to be a limited edition card.
    3. Because it is available enough if you search a little bit. If you really want one, I'll be happy to point you to stores with cards in stock.

Well i'd point out that DH noted unavailability of the GTX 512mb's in our review...however i'd probably be accused of being biased in favour of ATI by doing that.

Then again, because its not in the conclusion that maybe makes me bias in favour of NV for hiding it away.

...i'm so confused. Can i/we be biased in favour of both? Does one cancel out the other :S

    @Hanners & EliteBastards

Very well done. Those Rightmark scores are just....

Extra kudos for addressing one of my pet peeves and getting useful results from 3DMark '06. Not quite as comprehensively as FiringSquad did, but that was probably overkill.

Well, I'm now the proud owner of one soon-to-be-delivered X1900XT  Availability and performance are just too much to resist. Gonna be nice to see how the other side lives after going green since NV40 days. Anybody in the market for a slightly used 7800GTX?

Which, in my opinion, is the right way to provide gamers with an assessment of the hardware.

The XT or XL? a big difference..

But nVidia said they shipped tenthousand+ boards, that's the same number as the 1900's have gone and a lot more than the Ultra Extreme.. It depends on what is actually "limited" about the card, it's availability or it's production run...

We just provide the raw numbers. All of the results from various boards are available so you can compare bandwidths, raw compute power, readback performance, etc. Since GPUBench is opensource, if someone wants to provide a script to compare to different runs, we'd be more than happy to accept it.

The branching test fails because there is no currently exposed GL extension for ATI. Nvidia can do this through fp40.

    Agree.
Does it all lead back to the design of the hardware? I remember that since Unreal Tournament 2003 (the tests with and without AI) that nV had a harder time to keep up.
    Priorities in a scheduler?

Remember all those X800Pros at launch that were really X800XTPEs?

Nah, it's nothing that ominous lol. First time I've been impressed with an ATi product since my 9800. Spanks my GTX seven ways from Sunday and I am so tired of all that shimmering in WoW, eh matrox

That's nothing, check out how green my old card collection is

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/cards.jpg

and I would buy the X1900 if I had the money as well because I think it is really well zero'd in for the upcoming games.

As for the GTX 512, I thought it had died a death but Komplett in Norway is promising lots more and they are normally very reliable. Not sure why you would want to buy one now though :-

    ttp://www.komplett.no/k/kl.asp?bn=10488

It's not as dead as a dinosaur but it certainly seems like one nowadays.....
