Thanks Hanners for clearing up my texturing confusion :)

So it looks like Nvidia has a lot of flexibility in configuring these things.

Frankly, I don't know. Maybe there's still some driver bubbles at work there or - and that'd be my guess - we're running into bandwidth problems here. After all, G84 only has two 64-bit-channels to RAM. Not very good for fine-grained access patterns IMO.

Yeah, but the trouble is that our tests (with RightMark3D) doen't show that there are more than 8 texture fetches per clock in G84...

Wow, Fudo's got some pics of the Gainward Bliss OC'ed version.
Fair overclock and all but what impresses the most is that weird double slot cooler.

Driver version number jumped like 20 step forward , and performance 1 step in some case.

After i read some review/preview, i can clearly say the 8600 series not so hot than the 6600/7600 was when released, so the chance come now for AMD to catch up some time.

Wow, I'm a little disapointed at the 8600......

On the other hand, that x1950pro is a beast of a card. I don't even know if RV630 would even hit x1950pro speed.

I dont think I can recall any recent Nvidia GPU launch with lesser favorable reviews . .

So, the conclusion is, it should cost the same as a 7600GT currently costs?

x1950pro performance on a much smaller die and half the memory bus seems pretty spiffy to me. Whats with hardocps temp measurements though? its 49C idle and 52C load? kind of weird.

Certainly not that low IMO, but $200-230 is a tad excessive to say the least, given the prices of the Radeon X1950 Pro and GeForce 7900 GS. ~$179 and I'd consider it a much better value, personally. It's slightly too big for its performance though and certainly overpriced right now; unless miracle drivers appear in May, RV630 might be very interesting...

Yeah it looks like a lot of people who were complaining about the narrow bus were somewhat justified.

I'm surprised by the negativity, to be honest. It's definitely faster than 7600GT plus it has D3D10.

I'd like to see some analysis of whether it's truly bandwidth limited, as it seems rarely so. And how usable 4xMSAA is. It performs = or >=1950Pro frequently enough, despite its bandwidth shortfall. Sometimes quite a bit faster.

The message I'm getting from reviews is that a lot of games are still texturing dependent and it is math that really kills it.

6600GT and 7600GT set a pretty high expectations bar, regarding how much faster they were than their predecessors, don't you think?

Tho the real test will be how it does against AMD's midrange lineup, of course. NV has owned the midrange parts the last three years, and if AMD squeaks out parts that win outright, or at least trade blows, it'll be a major psychological victory for AMD and disappointment for NV.

I think that will depend on the margins...

I have already posted a thought in the RV630 roumor thread of the possibilty of the HD 2600XT being 256bit and being the replacement of the x1950pro. I don't see why not either and seeing how dissapointing the 8600 looks, it would be a great hit from behind from AMD. Kind of a simliar fashion of the 9700pro.
