No, it does not. It's two discrete GPUs, each with it's discrete memory bank and discrete 256-bit bus. If Tom said it's 512-bit it's just another sillyness in a long stream of silly things coming from that site.

I saw one or two Crysis benches here and there, but I think we're starting to see a trend. Tweaktown gets VERY similar performance to my system in Crysis and 3DMark06, but the 3870X2 lags behind my CF scores by a notable margin.

If I were to guess, I'd say the much less memory speed seems to be hindering this setup...

Reviews slowly are useless, not this is the first time every review show totally different performances.

Sience when Crysis matter as benchmark? there is no card in the world (at least not released yet) what can run that game playable frames at maximum quality, 12,8 fps vs 14,9 fps say one thing only: unplayable.

It seems the "true" review date has been moved to NEXT monday..that is why Tom's pulled theirs (I got a look at it first though) and Anand and H dont even have one.

For the simple reason that you just mentioned: Crysis is capable of bringing a video card to it's knees. What better way to show how much "grunt" a video card has than to test it at 2560x1920 with everything maxxed out? It would be like blasting those strong-man competitions for having endurance tests that no mortal human can perform for any reasonable length of time. You know what? Someday, someone will. Why lamblast them with "nobody can do that today..." when tomorrow is yet another day?

And as for your comment about unplayable on any current card -- depends on the maximum quality available to your hardware. Maximum quality on MY hardware with an XP operating system is 1680x1050 in DX9, and I see several single cards capable of playing exactly that setting at max with very playable framerate.

Why do you harbor so much vitriol for Crysis?

A lot of us (myself included) are interested in how high we can push the settings on Crysis and still get a reasonable framerate. 3870x2 might hopefully be one of the few cards that can run Crysis on high settings at 1680x1050 and get playable framerates. I know that no card can max Crysis out on very high, but many (most?) people shopping for a high-end graphics card want to know just how well Crysis will run.

On the other hand, does anybody care how well 3870x2 can handle Half-Life 2? Practically any high-end card from the last 2 years can run Half-Life 2 maxed out at faster framerates than a monitor can display.

And whats this results tell you?
Every programers able to write a code what bring a card to it's knees (as you write) but they won't sell it as a game its called as techdemo.

You exactly know what i mean, DX10 at maximum settings.

    Where?

I'm not suite sure what your getting at but I also wanted to point out that Crysis is one of, if not THE most important benchmark out today.

Afterall, its pretty much the only game in existance that still requires more GPU power to be playable at reasonable settings.

And yes, any developer can code a game thats unplayable on current hardware but only Crytek has. That makes Crysis unique and thus an important benchmark.

Additionally, its the best looking game available on High settings and its high settings which are borderline playable at the moment on high end hardware making benchmarking it on even faster hardware all the more relevant.

When the very first and original Doom came out, the VAST majority of computers in existence could not play it at full details (screen size at max, and "high" visual setting). It took a 486/66 class machine with a decent VESA video card to maintain consistent framerate with Doom at full screen and the HQ setting enabled, which wasn't available until at least a year after Doom's release. That class of hardware was also quite expensive when it was released...

When Unreal Tournament came out in '99, there wasn't a computer on the earth that could play it at "max settings". The internal renderer supported resolutions to 1600x1200, 32-bit color, and acceleration via D3D / OpenGL / Verite (what was that called?) / Glide API's. It was well into the GF3 + PIII 800 era (more than two years) where you could play it at the maximum of those settings.

Where are your complaints for these apps?

No, I don't. You said maximum quality -- many people don't use Vista, many people don't have a 30" LCD panel. Many people with an XP box, an 8800GT and a 20" LCD panel can play Crysis at the full settings availble to them. For those who don't have a ~$1000 computer, there are medium settings.

    Let me help:
You somehow can't fathom how people play this game, and you decry it's use as a benchmark. Too bad. People do play it; people DO like it; it makes an excellent benchmark because it is capable of stressing a video cards' processing power to the max.

    The end.

Your comment miles away from the original theme, i not talk about anything like Crysis the first and only game what not runs at highest setting in any HW available at launch, i talking about its not important benchmark because its can't show the future and what show now its one thing only at DX10 highest setting unplayable.

Whats the point playing with a dx10 card in dx9? Crysis it was hyped mostly because its a super DX10 game, maybe you see my point now, but i think you won't and well i not care

Because Crysis not the best ever happend for me than i vitriol the game? thats funny

Because not everyone's operating system can support DX10? Why did you intentionally skip that point?
No, because you discredit Crysis as a benchmark out of your own biases, not based on any logical thought process.

You're now the third person on my ignore list; you will not be missed just like the other two aren't.

For better dx9 performance? Some of us don't see the benefits of moving to dx10 yet, and Vista just plain don't like some of us.

What really has me interested in this product is that fact ATi indeed has made the onboard Crossfire transparent to the drivers and the OS...! The card is seen as a single card--a la' the V5. I mentioned that I hoped this would be the case in an earlier thread...and it is...:)

Right now I'm puttering along with a BFG 8800GT that I was going to return except for the unfortunate fact that when I put my HD 3870 back in it had died on me for some reason that I cannot fathom. So far, though, I actually like the 8800GT pretty well--except for the drivers. I really miss the CCP--nVidia's CP program doesn't hold a candle to it, imo.

Maybe in terms of device manager only showing one card, but not in terms of application performance. The same is said about NVIDIA's 7950GX2; it displayed as a single card in device manager, but did not perform as a single cohesive device. The 3870X2 is still a crossfire configuration, and is still the primary performance detriment to this topology.
