    It would be funny... lest the fact I have seen posters (namely here haha) who are very "angry" about this and feel quite cheated :lol: Btw, I plan to run Crysis on my new rig at 1024x640 (16:10) to get higher framerates. Gittery 35fps "average" at 1280x1024 isn't enough, so half the resolution (ala console resolution fudging!) should get me a nice bump in framerate hehe I feel like I am playing on a Console already! :p

    but if this is successful hopefully this will scare companies to not use false advertise in future.
    though i dont know if halo3 was advertised as being in HD res (720p)

    I suspect that would be irrelevant, since it's almost a certainty that they never specifically advertised that "Halo 3 renders internally at 720p!" on the box. Although I haven't seen the Legendary packaging...

    If this even gets a whiff in court, expect Microsoft and Sony to be quickly persued for their E3 claims, HD mantras, and box labels. i.e. Not gonna happen. I don't believe Bungie/MS ever claimed in any sales material that the game was rendered at 720p.

    Oh, and there are dozens of games (in this thread) that are going to fall into this same "trap". Halo 3 is just the most popular.

    I remember back when I bought my 360, the first game I tried was Halo 2 in the hopes that Frankie's Weekly Update claim that the 360 would render the game at 720p was true. As disappointing as it was to find out that wasn't the case, I was consoled by the fact that Peter More at E3 stated all 360 games would render at a minimum of 720p, so at least I thought I could feel confident in Halo 3 achieving that level of fidelity. So much for PR claims.

    They could easily argue that they only ever advertised the game as running in "HD", and that because 640p is higher than what any SD television is capable of displaying, then it is, by default, "high" definition, regardless of whether it's 720p.

    Personally, I think it's nothing more than the overly letigious America coming to the forefront again. Don't like it? Sue 'em. You can get money for any wrongdoing anywhere!!

    Also consider the fact that the people who bought Halo 3, myself included, would have purchased the game regardless of what the resolution was. Which negates the whole argument. No one actually bought it based solely on the fact that it was rendered internally at 720p or higher, and it never caused anyone any undue grief.. no one went into a fit of depression or a homocidal rage because of it. Their case is unfounded, plain and simple.

    What about Sony? A lot of their stuff isn't 720p. Hell, I'd wager a bunch of PS2 games weren't even full 480. What about Nintendo? Is every Wii game running internally at 480p?

    It wasn't, specifically, hence that long and illustrious witch hunt to determine its rendering resolution (and partly the reason why this thread exists. ;)).

    The closest they ever got was this statement in the faq on bungie.net:

    Hey guys. I'm looking for a listing of games and their native resolutions. I'd like to compare the native resolutions of PS3 games to XBOX 360 games. I read on SFD that XBOX 360 only has 2 true 1080p games. Well, I know I shouldn't trust SDF, but I hear you guys are the "pixel counters", and u know the facts.

    So, could anyone direct me to a listing or games and their native resolutions?

    There is no complete listing (unless Quaz has been keeping a document). You'll have to search through the thread like everyone else.

    Not to worry, it's a common request, but no one has ever bothered to compile an on-going list. :p

    edit: btw, IIRC, eurogamer has the occasional PS3 vs. X360 article on multiplatform games. A search of their website should lead you to the comparisons they've made thus far (and I believe the author(s) of the articles has begun to collaborate with Quaz too).

    For one time SDF was right two real native 1080p on 360 (VT3 and NBA street Homecourt), but on PS3 it's the same ;), if you exclude some PSN games…

    Excellent list! You can feel proud your work is helping the poor lawyers find much needed work! Can you confirm this one isn't a typo?
    1080p with 4xAA would be awesome IQ, but would also need a fair few tiles which would surely make this something of a landmark XB360 title.

    yes but framerate is 95% 30fps vs 60fps in 720p
