Actually thats not something new. He stated it even clearer in the past.

He said in the past that it is harder to get the permission to add damage in commercial cars. This does not apply as much for racing cars though.

It is quite natural if you think about it. Racing cars are not ment for sale for everyday use. They arent sold in the open market. Seeing them damaged is not expected to affect buying behavior from people like us. Racing cars are ment for racing on racing tracks and rallying by professional drivers. They are made and expected to face the forces of nature and physics. We see these cars get damaged in sport channels. We dont get to see a beautiful Lexus get damaged as if its something expected. Quite the contrary they demonstrate the safety and luxury for the everyday man. Watching that car accelerate like hell in some form and get shred to pieces on a wall isnt what the manufacturers want to communicate with the specific model. This is how manufacturers see it.

    :lol:Classic.

The damage model is literally impossible for GT5 when it comes to commercial cars. It isn't comparable to the Forza series at all.

If damage is coming to Racing cars, then be excited, it'll probably be fantastic.

Are we going to discuss about Lexus' looks or about the point in general? Lexus served as an example only. Forget beauty then. Just concentrate on the fact that these manufacturers try t o communicate different things with commercial cars to consumers and they arent about aggressive driving that might obliterate your car.

I was just wondering if you actually considered Lexus cars to be beatiful :)

I totally understand the point of your post and all that, i just found it interesting that someone would consider lexus cars as beatiful.

I do. IS, ES, GS, LS. All beautiful cars to me (current gen versions, that is). Absolutely love the LF-A concept (especially the roadster).

The entire rationale is rather idiotic, seeing a virtual car get wrecked in a racing game which contains hundreds of other models of cars, is not going to influence anyone's purchase, or even brand perception.

Not PD's fault, but it's still a shame.

Lexus cars are most certainly beautiful. The current models (IS, GS, LS) all look have shared design cues for a unified look, yet at the same time they each have their own distinct look (unlike the german brands). The IS doesn't look like a smaller version of the GS, and the GS doesn't look like a smaller version of the LS.

This will ofc be a rather silly discussion, since beauty is 100% subjective :)

I think this depends mostly on the eye that is looking at the car, for me, most german cars dont look the same at all, but that may be because half my family drives mercs so i may be more familiar with the cars. I dont think BMW's look the same at all either, but as with the mercs, they all look like Mercs and BMWs (unified design)

With lexus, the old cars where just rip offs of old mercedes\bmw designs (the prior LS being allmost a 1:1 copy of the Merc S class). The new ones, look like any other new japanese car to me, but again this is ofcourse depending on the eyes that are looking :)

I also dont see how they all look unified but have their own distinct look. To me, their cars look no more distinct that Mercs or BMWs.

    http://www.lexus.no/range/index.aspx#

I dont see the big difference from this and Merc\BMW ranges.

Note i dont think Mercs\BMW's are beautiful either, to me a beautiful car is something like this:

All beauty is in the eye of the beholder! And there's no objective criteria, not constant frame of uniform reference, and I dare say there is nothing in existence that someone somewhere doesn't find beautiful, no matter how bizarre!

A discussion on 'good looking cars' is a bit of a stretch for the console forum, even in a GT thread ;)

I did not mean to relate the "racing cars" to a performance issue. I just wished he worded his reply so that would confirm 100% if its damage on all "class" or cars or just racing.

The whole 720p comment was just me saying, if theres a damage system as a whole, I'd be happy to play in 720p for more complex damage rather than 1080p with less. (thats if the res difference would allow that)

If its just going to be superficial damage like in Forza 2, id rather have them do something else. If its physics based damage (doubt it) or atleast a lot better scripted than forza 2 it might be interesting.

    It won't.

Look at Forza 2, some cars "smash up" way more than others. I don't think Polyphony is willing / ready to have variable degree's of damage for nearly 3 times the amount of cars included in Forza 2.

On top of that, it's a working balance with the Manufacturers. I'm sure they'll see that x company doesn't have as much damage, and then they want to change their mind, etc.

There's just a lot of behind the scenes stuff that we will never be aware of. It's important to remember that the GT Franchise is FAR MORE important to the Car industry than Forza.

Not surprising, but I find Lexus cars beautiful. Got my IS250 on Xbox360 launch day funnily enough.

I'm on my 5th one. I had 2 of the orginal IS200 in Europe, then I had the IS300 sport cross, then the new IS250, then an RX400h.

My wife now has an BMW X5 instead of the RX400h, but I hate it with a passion. The hybrid engine gave you much more acceleration.

I'm in a poxy hirecar right now, will be moving to an IS-F when it arrives. I loved the Top Gear review of the IS-F, Clarkson has always hated Lexus with a passion due to the superior driving experience. Along comes the IS-F, which looks like it handles like a beast and he doesn't like that either.

I'd take a Lexus over a BMW or Audi, what other Sports Saloon is worth even considering?

^ +1. I've always liked the IS300, and the newer IS250/350/F look even better.

Really? My memory tells me differently, the X5 4,8i offers better accel 0-60mph i haven't driven the RX400h enough (only driven it once) to been able to compare aceleration above that.

My father allmost bought a RX400h but after test driving it against the X5 and ML we both agreed that the RX400h looked fuglier and drove far worse.

I like the X5 a lot because you dont feel like your driving a big car at all, it feels like your driving a 3 series (well allmost). If you can afford the top of the range Merc's, you can enoy far better performance than both the X5 and the RX400h. ML63 AMG offers 512 hp and acceleration on par with a 996 Porsche Carrera 4s :)

Well, this all depends on your budget, but Merc AMG usually does the job :)

I dont particularly like the looks of the C & E class thought, in my eyes they look about as ugly as the lexuses :p

Has there been any info on how many cars there will be in GT5?

Valued member of GTP (GranTurismo Planet) amar1212 has talked about GT5 having as many cars as GT4.

The guy's reputation is beyond reproach, so there's no need questioning him about it.

He put out some pre-E3 hints this time:

I'll translate them as best I can:

    1. A global release in 11 months. I'm taking that to be April 1st 2010.
    2. 600 cars on 95 tracks
    3. You can build new tracks using assets from existing tracks
    4. Online play will be more than 16 cars (at least on some tracks - this is my own guess) and will have voice chat, clan and party support
    5. There are two options for buying the game (this idea was mentioned a long time ago already by PD themselves): buying the full game and all future updates for a fixed price, or buy/upgrade Prologue (online or on disc I reckon as now) and buy extras optionally from there.
    6. PSP version is coming which will either be similar to GT5, or a remake of GT4 with a brand new UI (I'm leaning fairly strongly to the latter, for obvious reasons)

The last one is now obviously confirmed by the Qore PSP Go! leak (amar212's post was before that).

I'm very curious though if they will upgrade parts of Prologue before the final global release. I'm sure we'll know more at the end of the Sony conference. ;)
