I only played it on xbox but I gotta say... it truly was hell of a lot better than HL2 or doom3. Not as good as far cry though.

It fixes the "I can't climb on top of things" annoyance right out of fps games. It is the only fps game ever where stealthy approach didn't annoy the hell out of me. It combines adventure game and fps in a whole new way. It has excellent voice talents and great graphics. Weapons are very good too.

Immersion in melee fights, the special moves and stuff are great. If someone points a gun at you, you can grab the gun, turn it to point your enemy while he still holds it, and force him to pull the trigger forcing him to blow his own brains out. Superb!

There is only one sewer mission that I didn't like.

    My scores for recent shooters:

Metroid Prime 2 100/100 Game of the Year for me!
    Far Cry 97/100
    Riddick 95/100
    Painkiller 92/100
    CS:S 91/100
    HL2 89/100
    Doom3 82/100
    Halo 2 69/100
    Killzone Now playing...

Dig, your not missing much with the 2.0++ profile (for this gen, at least), as its only playable at resolutions under 1280x1024 (preferably 1024x768 and lower) and does not seem to function with AA enabled.

Yeah, Riddick has the potential to be MUCH BETTER! :D

I must say, after playing through HL2 almost 2x, it really isn't even close to what it was cracked up to be. Where's all this hyper AI unscripted stuff that was promised for the E3 demo last year? Where's all this completely breakable and physics-based stuff that was hyped? There's like 2 places in the game physics ever plays any kind of big deal. And where are those awesome-looking HDR metal roof tiles that Valve released a shot of? :p

Sorry, after spending time with the game I have concluded HL2 is a majorly overcooked ham. I expect the Painkiller expansion will schpank its booty in a major way if it's ever released over here (grrr!) and hopefully so will Riddick too. Enclave's a very enjoyable game, so as long as Riddick isn't WORSE, then it's already gone a long way.

I've had this happen a few times in fights, but have no idea how to initiate it. It's very hard to tell what's going on once you get in close to an opponent. Any tips?

    Hmmm

I'll have to give this game a shot. I wasn't even mildly interested in playing it. Not really a fan of the Riddick movies. Pitch Black was ok, but the other was not very good at all. Kind of drew me away from the games. From the screenshots I've seen, the graphics look nice, but I don't like the game art at all. But the melee combat sounds very cool, and I really wanna see how that plays out.

Anyone know how soft shadows are being generated? Same deal as Knights of the Old Republic?

    Re: Hmmm

Have you seen the 2nd Riddick movie? The Anime one? It's about 35min. long and falls in after Pitch Black and before The Chronicles of Riddick (the Movie).

    Very good. ;)

Don't know what the game uses for "soft shadows" but a quick guess would be that of performance reasons for the "2.0" limitation.

It's just softened stencil volumes. They barely look much better/softer than regular stencil volumes.

I'd wager they didn't allow it as an option because either a.) They have a marketing deal with nVidia b.) The 6800 is the only card to provide acceptable performance (as what you said)

Had to see how Metroid Prime 2 ended before giving it a score.

Well, all in all, It was perfect. GOTY material if there ever was some.

Chronicles of Riddick, Dark Fury I think.. saw it, wasn't bad, basically carries the pitch black story along immediately following the end of the movie with a little mini adventure on a smugglers ship.

I do believe Chronicles of Riddick gives Half-Life 2 a severe run for its money. If not for the fact that HL2 will benefit from endless mods and multiplayer mayhem, there'd be no contest at all in my mind.

Riddick is the perfect mating of Hollywood-style story, production values, and interactive entertainment. It looks phenomenal, it sounds phenomenal, and it pulled me in like few games have in recent years.

Put it this way: I bought Riddick for Xbox and didn't put it down until I'd finished (several evenings later). I bought Half-Life 2 and began losing interest during Ravenholm. I'm lukewarm about picking it up again, yet I'm seriously considering picking up Riddick on PC so I can play the game again in all its Director's-Cut glory.

It's my opinion that everyone on this board should get their hands on Riddick one way or the other. You owe it to yourselves to try it out.

Like all games, Riddick is not without its faults. But taken as a whole, I think it's one of the greatest achievements yet in interactive entertainment.

P.S. For those of you who saw the Chronicles of Riddick movie, I think Vin Diesel owes you a giant apology. Please don't let that film turn you off from the game, however. It's a completely different story, and it's written and executed far better than any aspect of last summer's film.

    Weird

I just read the gamespy review ....

Strangely, the game doesn't sound all too hot from the description, yet they end up giving it a 4.5/5. Very strange review.

The Director's Cut material sounds pretty lame. The only thing that has me remotely interested in playing this is the melee combat.

The absolute best thing about this game is the developer's commentary. I hope this gets used in other games.

Once you beat the game you can play it again in developer's commentary mode. In that version, there are director's commentary Icon's throughout the levels of the game. You walk up to the Icon and press the use button and the developer's will talk about different things in that level. VERY interesting. Makes playing it a second time well worth it.

One of the thing's you find out from the commentary is that the developer's were used as the models for some of the prisoners. Pretty neat to hear one of the developers telling you that the guy you just killed was based on a 3d model of himself.
