 <The DX10.0 card without a DX10.0 driver, for now but maybe not too long>

Free AA (up to a certain amount of samples) inherent with the scheduler and it's attempts to hide latency?

Well latency hiding in any architecture is still heavily dependent on the amount of math available. So more math = free(er) AA/texturing.

So um... what is the retail name of the R600 going to be? And will it have a green shiny box :?:

I'm quite sure they'll keep the red(/black)-theme, since they're keeping the ATI brand otherwise, too.
Maybe it'll be Radeon X-something FX for the top model this time, in-line with AMD's top-of-the-line CPU's?

QuadFX and "AltairFX/AgenaFX" gives us a few hints... although i believe "ATI Radeon X2800 XTX" is the most likely candidate (assuming they will keep their own naming conventions). X2000 would sound great too. :D

Oddly enough, the almost confirmed name for now is QuadFX (formerly 4x4, QuadFather, etc), when a direct competitor already has a QuadroFX in the market for a few years now (yes, it's a different line of processors, but still...).

Aren't they totally dropping the ATi brand? So the most likely name would prolly be "AMD Radeon X2800 XTX".

    Better than any of these...

AMD Radeon 8900+ (In referenced to current Geforce)
    AMD Radeon 2800+
    AMD Radeon X2 800+ (X2 as in 12)
    AMD Radeon 512 FX-28 (512-bit...)

AMD is keeping ATI's brand name for GPU's.

No, they're keeping the ATI brand for all graphics related - GFX cards will still be "ATI" (Radeon) branded, and chipsets with IGP will be "AMD with ATI graphics" branded

So regarding 10.1 - my guess is it includes some features that r600 has but g80 doesn't, some that g80 has but r600 doesn't (total guesses here: fp32 filtering, PCF in HW), and some that neither have (for example, that elitebastards article makes it sound like WDDM 2.1 support will be a long time coming).

As for the "control over AA" - could this just mean that given a framebuffer that contains at most N samples, developers can specify per-shader whether to use multi-sampling or super-sampling (and if super-sampling, perhaps it can be with a number of samples less than N)? If I'm not mistaken, this would make NV's TRAA something you could implement in software (and would give devs an easy way to address aliasing in shaders).

We actually don't know that for sure. It is entirely conceivable that it's the other way around: the G80 is DX 10.1, while the R600 is DX 10. Or, potentially, they might both be DX 10.1.

There's not much point having some DX10.1 features, there are no caps so it's all or nothing. FP32 filtering is part of DX10 allthough optional.

Who cares about DX 10.1 when 10.2 is better...

People are talking about D3D10.1 compliance now? How interesting...
Rumours, heard through the grapevine, say the board will be named Radeon Ultra 5800 FX... Or maybe Gonzo Calores 2000 XT... (The later is actually an idea from Hector Ruiz himself)

Either way, what for anyway? I'm merely interested what's in +1 out of pure technical interest.
