Interesting to look at schedule times to see to an extent how important different parts of the world are to each company.

All them are weighted towards the US as the event is taking place in the US. What is interesting that is that US is roughly in the middle between European and Asian (Japan most importantly WRT consoles) time zones.

MS chose a time that is right in the middle with the US emphasized. 6 AM Japan time, 2-5 PM US time, 11 PM central European time.

Sony chose a time that is weighted towards Japan. 9 AM Japan time, 5-8 PM US time, 3 AM central European.

Nintendo chose a time weighted towards the Europe. 1 AM Japan time, 9-12 AM US time, 6 PM European time.

Sony makes sense as their home market is important to them even if it is their smallest market by far (only PSP and PS Vita were competitive with the rest of the world). Also means it's convenient for Chinese viewers. They'll focus on Europe in other trade shows.

I'm kind of surprised at MS balancing Japan into their time consideration. However, while Japan is almost insignificant to MS, they are competitive in Australia which is in a similar time zone. Also, it makes it a little more accessible to China, a potential growth market.

Nintendo is kind of interesting. Japan is far more important to Nintendo than it is to Sony. Their strongest and most consistent market by far is the US. However, unlike Sony, Europe and Japan switch importance depending on platform (Wii and DS was stronger in Europe, but 3DS and Switch was stronger in Japan while Gamecube and Wii-U were similar in both). But they ignore Japan, their home territory, and instead focus on a time convenient for the US and Europe. Then again, this isn't a big show for Nintendo, so they probably feel it's safe to not to have a convenient time for the Japanese market.

EA is 4 AM Japan, 12-3 PM US, 9 PM central Europe. They don't care much about Japan. It's a very small market for them.

Bethesda is the same as Sony. This one is strange as Japan is also a small market for them while Europe is a large market for them. However, they may view China as a very important growth market as PC is very strong there and their PC titles do quite well.

UBIsoft is 5 AM Japan, 1-4 PM US, 3 PM central Europe. Focus on US and Europe their largest markets.

Lot of time on my hands for once (it's nice), so used this as just an interesting thought exercise.

Regards,
SB

It's more than that when you factor in day and what people are doing when the show is on.

MS chose a time that is right in the middle with the US emphasized. 6 AM Japan time, 2-5 PM US time, 11 PM central European time.
MS picked a Sunday when everyone's free to watch. Everyone lies in on a Sunday or does Religion, meaning the afternoon is the sensible time.

Sony chose a time that is weighted towards Japan. 9 AM Japan time, 5-8 PM US time, 3 AM central European.
Sony are on a work-day so need a time where people will have finished work in the US. Most will be commuting home at 5pm but Sony are always late and add lots of boring, pointless filler at the beginning so these folk can get home and enjoy the actual content.

Nintendo chose a time weighted towards the Europe. 1 AM Japan time, 9-12 AM US time, 6 PM European time.
Nintendo can do there's any time they want because it's digital. It's only a good time for Europe as US working and Japan sleeping.

Ultimately I'm not sure there's as much world-wide consideration as you think because the times don't really make much sense. I don't think MS could factor in EU any better without being less accommodating to their US audience. I think they all picked a US time more-or-less knowing the press would cover it and people would pick up through the day/week as they can.

So by now 3 games are mainly standing out to me above the rest, so far: Anthem (not coming out forever though, yawn), Battlefront 2 (actually pretty excited for this suddenly, campaign should be a fantastic showcase for my new X1X, and it's actually coming in 2017. Pretty much among the best graphics around IMO.) and The Last Night (looks stylish, I like Blade runner).

Oh and I guess if you count Destiny 2.

Overall star of the show for me X1X, if it counts. Hardware is kind of different.

I really haven't paid any attention whatsoever to what Nintendo is doing though.

Any game with a 2017 release date tied for my game of the conference.

RDR2 also tied for my game of the conference because it did me a service by not having me drool over a bunch of marketing and then force me to wait 8-11 months for it to show up.

Release date:

2017..."Yay"
Early 2018..."I don't like it but I understand"
Late 2018 of no release date at all..."If I was any primate other than human I would be chunking feces at the screen!!!"

I think I should go change my vote for best conference to Devolver Digital.

I understand Anthem is visually stunning if you have 4K, HDR. Read that in several places so far.

I am such a tool though. I actually went and signed up for the Space Monkey program. Forced sign-ups of any kind are generally something that gets your company put on my "Block-site" never buy a game from them list.

Yeah, Devolver taking the piss out of the big conferences and the pathetic hype machinery that is the press was very refreshing.

Different from what, exactly?

That's the kind of sentence I'd be expecting to see regarding a Nintendo console, or even the Xbone because of "mandatory" Kinect and HDMI-In for PiP.
But the XboneX is literally just a box with USB ports and HDMI out.
