Hi fellow forumites!

Rys and I have been working towards making data from www.techingames.net embeddable in the Beyond3D forums similar to how YouTube videos have been made embeddable in the past.

The idea is that you simply put [tig ] ... [/tig ] around a game name, and a badge for that game will appear showing up-to-date information about the game.

But of course that is not all - you will be able to do this with almost any information from the site: features, reviews, links, credits, you name it and it can probably be done now or shortly after you asked it.

Basically, the tig tag will add its contents to www.techingames.net/embed?, defaulting to id= when no = appears in the tag, but the details will be ironed out in the near future.

A few examples:

game

feature

http://www.techingames.net/embed?feature=Playstation Move

Reviews

Links

Feature Values

http://www.techingames.net/embed?id=Evolve

More compact version

http://www.techingames.net/embed?id=Evolve&display=Compact

Our question to you as we're getting this ready is to provide some feedback / input to us on what you'd like to see and how. Hope you're as excited about this as we are!

Nice Arwin! This is great community work here.

I can't even fathom to imagine how much works has been put into this. Thanks for this, Arwin. It is going to save us some extra linking when it comes to reviews' compilation and stuff like that.

It would be very interesting if this could be made standard, to use it on any page on the internet with a forum, but well, maybe the typical link will suffice.

There's still a lot more work to do, like make nice descriptions with illustrative screenshots of various graphical effects and so on. But I think this is a good start from which we can develop and improve further quickly. If you're logged into the site, you can also filter the information to only show for instance platforms you're interested in. So if you're all about Xbox One, you can actually hide PS4 or vice versa if you so desire. Or only show Wii U, or only PS4 and Xbox One, etc.

So whenever you're in a thread about a certain topic (say, AF) or game, try to think about what could be a useful way to link in information. Right now for instance, AF we could put embedded to explain what AF is, and on the site you can generate a report that shows the AF levels combined with the game engines that these games use, for instance. Perhaps we even want the results of that report embedded as well, which is something I will look into.

Yup, I've seen it working already!! Congrats on your work bearing fruit, it is well deserved. I found out it is working when I was replying in The Witcher 3 thread.

Only downside is that the implementation can go unnoticed, :( and because of that the interface of the feature in the forum could be improved.

If the same content could be crammed into a very small window just to the left of the Write your reply... box then it would be the most awesome thing!

True that it could go unnoticed, but opening posts would probably benefit from using it too, starting with a game badge, links ... .

Thanks for the tips! I am not quite happy with the current setup either - ideally I would like some subtle indication at least that something is clickeable. CSS3 Transforms sound like a good idea as well.

A background color change is usually good for that :)

The interface would be happy with a little more fanciness. But coding is first so there is no need for a hurry. I think a pane that could fit perfectly to the left of you "write a post" box with a link to the info of the game in question would be great.

Qdiscus didn't work for me -bad connection- but a couple of things. Diablo 3 is on the 2.2 version now. Killer Instinct is 900p nowadays.

No you are not blind. When you are in a topic that is about a game, it seems like useless info. You can always add a game badge as well if you want that.
