I need a new router with good QoS/packet shaping so I dont have to stop my downloads (pita)whenever I want to play online since my dsl really sucks the big one.

thx

why not try the Killer NIC
http://www.killernic.com/products/default.aspx

you can run bittorrent/ftp on the cards cpu + store the download on an usb hard drive plugged directly into the card so it doesnt hit your pc at all
it also has Hardware Bandwidth Control
"Bandwidth Priority settings let you tell Killer™ NIC which applications should get preferential access when multiple applications are vying for bandwidth at the same time. High priority programs can be guaranteed the bandwidth they need. "

and most importantly it has a cool looking heatsink to inprove your l33tness

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think radeonic is unhappy with his PC's performance while downloading, bit torrent tends to mess up online gaming (makes your pings really high) I think this is what he wants to avoid.

Anyways to address the question, I'm not sure. I always just pause my dls before I start a game.

Correct.
The issue is not only my pc but an xbox 360 I play online with so a killernic or whatever wont help.
I know theres some "gamer" routers out there with a certain QOS engine, forget what it's called, but they're supposed to have excellent QoS performance.

how about this (got a few awards)

D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router

"The highly touted gamefuel feature is useful as well. It allows us to setup special rules for our network giving priority to gaming bandwidth over other sources of traffic such as FTP and media streaming. This is helpful for those who share multiple roommates as it allows you to game virtually uninterrupted."

Yeah, I'd agree. Check the DD-WRT site for a Broadcom-based router that runs it, and then put that on the router. Tomato firmware also is supposed to have very good QOS. Just make sure you don't get something with very little flash and ram.

I like the Buffalos. They are cheap, work well, and seem to be the main development platform for DD-WRT.

Im using this D-link 655 and its been doing a great job. I did one hell of a test for it with 5 STB for fios tv streaming video, and maxing the 20/5 line with both torrent and online gaming at the same time and the router handled it with out any problems or slowdowns any were. For the streaming video for fios tv the router has to do the routing for it and the D-link 655 has QoS to do it.

Well when I had 7Mb cable I had no problems maxing out the line with either torrents or usenet with no QOS at all but since I've moved and now have 1536kbps rated (get 1.3Mb out of) dsl it really chokes when you download-; I believe your router needs to do much less work to give you a decent ping than a router for someone like me- with shit internet.
I think cable (or in your case fiber.. you lucky bastard) handles maxing out downloads much better than dsl.

The D-link 655 should help you with your high ping problem. Before I had the 655, I have a Linksys router that was to slow to handle the FIOS line but after installing the 655, my ping on most gaming servers was lower and some by 25% too. The QoS is very good on it too. I got it on sale about 10 months ago for $110 but You can find it for as low as $85 on sale now.
