The Tunder is awesome, combines the power of the Thunder with the ammo availability of the AK. Served me the entire game, most of it as my main weapon, but was an awesome secondary later on.

Where did you get yours? I got mine off a stalker returning to the bar area, he got jumped by dogs and while I tried to save him they finished him off. Fortunate really as otherwise I might have had to kill him...

Really enjoying this game, but it's really frustrating sometimes. The enemies just won't leave you alone.

The lighting effects are sweet, best I've seen yet, but my X1950XTX is having a hard time. I'll re-play this game when I get my X2900. It should be slightly faster.

Interesting, so that must be a scripted event then. I'll warn my friend who just got his own copy of the game to look out for it then.

Up to Yantar now. First attempt at raiding the area got me over-run with zombies. found the SPAS pump action wasn't as effective as I would have liked... Think the Tunder and a the light scoped British rifle are making the journey next time.

The subsonic sniper rifle from the duty mission is the best gun in the game i'd say. Super accurate from whatever distance for one shot kills. Only problem is it has a 10 round magazine so shoot carefully!

Also the last part of the game is terribly rushed. Yuck. Im going to rerun the game doing only the main quest. I give it 4 hours :p

I have to say, I was extremely scared in the first laboratory (I assume there are more to come!).

Loving the game. Very happy with the GP37(?) assault rifle at the moment, finding heads quite efficiently at last. Might have to see what this Gauss rifle is about though.

Y'aint seen nothing yet. Yantar is...interesting....

I know there are at least two more labs, I've only made it to the second one thus far. Raking up the nerve to get to the third...

I still haven't found much better than my Tunder chambered for AK ammo. Doesn't have the long range touching power I'd like but for CQB to medium range it does the job well.

You only get it at the NPP, so no point worrying about it. Personally I found the weapon pretty ineffective. You only get insta-kills on the exoskeleton Monolith if you aim for the head, and head shots are just as deadly with any other rifle. On the other hand if you miss the head, you have an eternity to wait before the weapon is ready to fire again.

The GP37 is the best NATO weapon, so the only possible 'upgrade' is a Tunder for close range firefights, or a sniper rifle for long range (although the Vintar BC sniper has automatic fire which makes it amazing as an all round weapon).

    Spoiler:
Yep, I made a large detour to pop along to the guy who was offering the Gauss rifle for 800 dollars. Once I got there and gave him the 800 smackers, I realised just what a good gun the Tunder is at close range, and how lovely the grenade launcher is.

Is there a godmode cheat for this game? because considering it runs so slow on my PC I don't know if I can make it through without playing dirty.

I checked gamefaqs but there was nada. Just the multiplayer skins which I already had the code for (tin box edition).

    Peace.

Bought the game this weekend and played a few hours. Seems really promising! Its got a nice post apocalyptic theme going and is looking good enough.

The framerate pretty much sucks in DX9 mode though (~12-20fps after lotsa tweaking vs. 60-100fps in DX8 mode all details maxed). Considering the game is basically an upgraded 2004 game, that seems pretty weak and horribly unoptimized. Granted, my X800XL is not the latest and greatest, but it performs much better in games like Quake 4, Oblivion or Gothic 3, which are graphically in the same league as STALKER.

Looking forward to playing more though, it feels refreshingly different!

Find the ini tweak threads, you'll need 'em. However, once you play with dynamic lighting you won't go back. Best use of dynamic light, ever.

I did go through a tweak guide, read through several threads and modified my user.ltx settings according to those reccommendations. It has increased the framerate and reduced stuttering & lagginess of the controls to a point where its almost playable, but only almost.

I don't really want to miss out on the lighting either, so I'll tweak some more and see if I can find a sweetspot between performance and visuals.

Still, stuff like this is exactly what is driving people towards consoles IMO. Plenty of folks just don't have the nerve, time, patience, motivation, know-how and/or understanding to go through the mechanisms of tweaking a game until it runs satisfactory and I honestly can't blame them...

I think that's pretty silly conclusion to reach. I don't think anything of the sort is "driving" people towards consoles. Price is.

The piffiling movement in PC prices has never, and will never. bring it into the same league as console pricing. I think most price movement in the PC market, in respect to gaming, is so small as to be irrelevant.

With softshadows , HDR FP16 , parallax mapping, dinamic ligthning in ootdoors ? in you x 800 ;) ? Oblivion and Gothic 3 have a more poor perfomance that Stalker, and not have the Stalker dinamic ligthning ,

or "dinamic shoftshadows " . Oblivion default not have a paralax , or not is a Stalker parallax quality

. Quake 4 is another generation game , in indoor , with Stalker outdoors features .

    Upgrade ? like HL2 EP 2 is a HL2 - or HL1 upgrade, or U3 is a U2 uggrade ? .
