Software to determine audio stream size?

slapnutz

Regular
I recently grabbed an 1080p .MKV movie of my mate at a lan. Its about 8gb.

I just wanted to know if there is software out there that will tell me how much of that is the DTS audio stream and how much is the video? I tried really basic stuff like looking in MPC or VLC while running it.

Remember its the Mastroka/MKV format which fewer programs can author/edit.

Cheers.

Demux the audio and check the filesize. AVI-Mux GUI (despite the name) supports it.

Media Info
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en

right click .mkv file -> Media Info
(assuming set to Basic View would look like)

First video stream
Language, XXXX Kbps, Hortizonal X Vertical (Display Aspect Ratio), at FPS, Codec

First audio stream
Language, XXXX Kbps, XX.X Khz, # of Channels, Codec

for example: Movie (2009).mkv

First video stream
English, 7 848 Kbps (8 038 Kbps), 1280*534 (2.35:1), at 23.976 fps, AVC (Container profile=Unknown@4.1) (High@4.1)(CABAC/12 Ref Frames)

First audio stream
English, 1 510 Kbps, 48.0 KHz, 6 Channels, DTS

Go to View -> Text (or Tree) and look for Audio #1 (matching audio stream in Basic View) You should see Stream size: XXX.XX GiB

In case of example file Movie (2009).mkv a 7.93GB MKV file, the text looks like:

Audio #1
ID : 2
Format : DTS
Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems
Codec ID : A_DTS
Duration : 2h 0mn
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 1 510 Kbps
Channel(s) : 6 channels
Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
Resolution : 24 bits
Video delay : 11ms
Stream size : 1.27 GiB (20%)
Language : English

I'm sur ethere are easier/faster ways to find out but I find that MediaInfo is invaluable for many needs, including troublesome video files (for me tends to be Indeo - Intel Video Codec 3, 4, 5)
