So is R580 supposed to be 48 pipes or 48 ALUs?

7800GTX 512MB was available before it was reviewed.

How about, you can order one today, and get it shipped tomorrow?

Regardless, there were many stores who had GTX 512's in stock for the first day or two of availability. They sold out quickly, of course, and have been continually behind on stocking the parts by a few days.

    Edit:
For posterity, because the link I have above may change, please note that at the time of writing, Newegg lists the BFG GeForce 7800GTX 512MB as being out of stock with an ETA of 1/20/2006.

    Didn't stay in stock long.

Edit: Fine, go ahead and edit and make me look dumb. ;)

Well geo buddy looks like it came to pass - http://www.techreport.com/onearticle.x/9296

X1900XTX is officially 25Mhz faster than the XT on the core and 50Mhz on the mem.

Edit: Maybe it's 100Mhz on the mem according to the dailytech article.

Well since the R580 is supposed to be a shading beast, I would say the non FSAA numbers are very disappointing compared to a GTX 256.

That could easily be because of drivers though?

That reason (excuse) is getting really old. ATi has had ample time to work on their x-1-3-1 designs. Besides, based on my understanding of the scheduling and threading logic in R580, a lot of it is handled in hardware no?

I think F.E.A.R might not be nearly shader limited enough to unleash R580. But those numbers do look a bit off in any case - it is way too close to the GTX in BF2 for example.

Yeah I agree, something doesn't look right. Too bad they didn't bench Far Cry or Quake :/.

Well, I have to believe they've done it then. Now the head-scratching search for why. Let's see what the OC results look like when the reviews hit. I will predict it OC's well, 700+ on the core without extraordinary measures.

I would guess that it'll overclock at about the same level as the R520.

Which resulted in "topper" (attempted anyway) AIB parts after NV's response (GTX512). I suggested that possibility a little while ago. And if you go back one cycle further, to NV, you get something similar with GTX and GTX512 bracketing X1800XT. The principal difference being that the "one down" part for GTX had a quad disabled at launch, rather than x1900XT.

The "wait a few months and something better will come along" rule is getting shorter and shorter. . .
