Simple spelling question

I'm looking for the proper spelling of the word I'd think would be spelled "spance", as in a span is the distance between two points while a spance[sp!?!] is an area with multiple spans. I have tried a few spell checkers and dictionaries, and I have found plenty of people spelling it like I did and also using an "s" inplace of the "c" I used; but I am at a loss to come up with the proper spelling, so I am hopping that someone here knows?

I'm not sure spance or spanse is a word.

expanse is. Is that the word you're wanting to use?

Thanks for the try Silince, but I had already been there. Thank you too Russ, expanse would be the proper word and it seems likely that what I was aiming for simply isn't offically a word; though apparnetly it is pretty common slang as it turns up about 15,900 hits on Google the way I spelled it and another 23.400 as "spanse."
