I'd like to see more cartoonish games. Something like this

I think the movie sin city? will inspire a few more 'cartoony' type comic book FPS games.

Is that Kirby, or just a potential lawsuit waiting to happen?

I picked I don't care as long as they don't use the cartoon look to stiff on the model detail, or to use crappy art, but as long as it's fun

I'm actually not looking forward to the day games don't look like games anymore. There are already some who get so captivated and engrossed in gameworlds that their grasp on reality is tenuous at best. If "realism" means more people falling into that category then I'm not for realism.

lest you wake up one day in the "matrix" heheh

Besides who really wants to see a really realistic head get realistically blown off someones shoulders. Yuk.....creeps me out just thinking about it.....

That was exactly what I meant, but most people seem to have understood that in a wrong way.

I thoroughly agree. I have no desire whatsoever to see that kind of thing.

[slightly OT]Partly because I just started re-reading it, this thread reminds me of The City and the Stars by Clarke.
You know he invented the floating glowing arrow that shows you where to go in 1956? Also the canyon effect

I like both, but realistic often translates to: more realistic blood and violence. And I don't like that. So I voted for cartoonish.

Re: Should shooters look realistic or more like comics/carto

Games ARE entirely recognisable. They recognisable in exactly the same way that watching Silence of the Lambs didn't make me go and eat people, and films have "graphics" far beyond anything a game can do.

Why do a certain section of the human race think that their brothers and sisters are a bunch of retards who don't know the difference between a game and real life? We're not even close to blurring the lines..

But then again, you're not going to make me believe it has no influence at all if that's the main part of your entertainment every day. People learn by example. Tell or show them often enough, and they will start to think like that.

So it might not make them instantly into maniacal killers, but it does make all those things seem much more natural. And if the news and even the national policies reinforce the same point of view, it at least encourages it. For example, compare the overall European view to the overall US view, and tell me which one is the more violent one.

And what comes first, all the violence in the streets, or all the violence in the media? Chicken and egg. Look at the comics in the EU and the US for a nice cross section of national values, for example. Sure, they're far over the top, but that goes for games as well.

It's a grey area. Show the extremes often enough, and the baseline of what is acceptable shifts.

It's not about not knowing the difference etc., it's just about "What is more fun for you as a gamer". I have no fun whatsoever with anything that tries to be overly "realistic". Just spoils the fun for me.

for a gaming environment I would say that TFC was realistic enough for me ...

Comparing to UT or Q3 it was a realistic setting ;)

Other than that... it doesn't matter really but I somehow desire more cartoony looks at the moment.
