Should I leave my ps2 in stand by mode?

Hi,
Like the topic says, should I leave my ps2 in stand by or turn off the whole thing from the back? I only got my ps2 not long ago, so wondering if any of you long time ps2 owners do one or the other. Can't really find an answer in the ps2 owner's manual.

Mine's been on standby for a year and a half with no ill effects.

Mech, if you haven't used the thing for that long, why don't you just pull the plug out of the wall socket and save yourself some electricity?

I use standby, as well.

I think the definite *wrong* thing to do is to shutdown your PS2 straight from the switch in the back. I would at least go to standby first, then hit the switch. I think the read head in the drive goes to a home position when you use standby (probably safed from dust contamination and safed from damage during transport). If you go straight to the switch to shutdown, that will leave the read head just dangling out in the open wherever it happen to be while you were playing your game.

Use the standby, don't use power switch, just like Randy said.
