Well, launch XP wasn't all that great due to dodgy drivers from hardware partners (/me shakes fist at HP printer drivers). It wasn't until a year later with the advent of SP1 that everything started to solidify for most people. I was one of the lucky ones where most of my hardware had decent to good drivers.
