I don't really like Adrianne Curry's face, but from a technology standpoint, rather than a face-shape perspective, the Adrianne demo looks better than this, the skin in this shot looks worse than Adrianne, no SSS, no pores, etc.

They should have just took Luna's face model, spruced it up a little bit, and made a kick-ass asian girl action hero out of her.

For all the detail Curry's face/skin has, it's barely noticeable... I played around with the demo on a friends' 8800, and it honestly didn't look much better than Luna, you really had to zoom right in to get anything good out of it. Besides, Ruby has the killer ass, and that's where it counts

Pff, Ruby. I'd take Toy Shop over any Ruby/model/whatever demo. I want to see Toy Shop 2 rendered by r600, with trees bending and leaves/papers flying due to wind. Then the flying debris will drop on water and make waves. The paper would get wet and slowly sink to the bottom before it gets completely dissolved. You can have Ruby walking on the road of Toy Story's 2 and show her hair being moved by the wind, etc but the main attraction for me would be the environment.

Seriously, who cares about how a face looks when you zoom in 10000x times? That is pretty useless level of detail and boring.

I remember with the first Ruby demo that I posited it would be more impressive if it were some fat balding guy named Ruben instead.

I think my point still stands. Body hair and greasy dandruff is harder to render than flawless skin.

Granted, you can't sell too many cards based on the amount of e-wood you can inspire with poor old Ruben in his mustard-stained sweatshirt.

I hate to say it, but ATI should really hire a better studio to provide assets for their techdemos... Try Blur or Axis (of E3 Killzone fame) or something...

It's not an issue of just zooming in to see pores. Without SSS, even when zoomed out, skin looks like a wax model in a wax museum.

Anyway, Ruby is not really a demo of sheer technical advancement, but mainly a pre-recorded CGI rendered in real time with some hacks. Lots of effort on camera, composition, motion capture, etc but compared to Toy Shop, Ruby is, well, just a Toy.

Nvidia's demos usually just demo 1 or 2 features they are trying to show off, like the smoke-box, or real-time SSS skin, or Nalu's hair, etc. Closest they came to Ruby was Mad Mod Mike, and that Bug-like looking thing (oh and the toy-story thing that tried to demo DoF, but looked very bad)

Sure, cinematic details impress more, but that's because it impresses from an art direction point of view. From a technical aspect, Toy Shop is more impressive, although personally for me, Smoke Box was the most impressive tech demo I've ever seen.

    WoW!!

Ruby and Jade take into the fight... To me, it sounds as if they want to represent how "multi-GPU" platform or their Crossfire than the relation of ATi\AMD  Can't wait to watch the trailer.

I'm guessing you play World of Lamecraft, everyone who does seems to say 'WoW' instead of 'Wow' more and more... :???:

Was it ever explained how old Ruby was? I wonder how old Jade is supposed to be.... Ruby should be slapping Jade down in the demo for blasphemously using the colour green, and defying the almight ATi in favour of an nvidia-similar green. Taking all bets on a clothing colour mod! Any ideas when we should expect to see this new demo, or at least a video? A week after launch, a month, same day?

Hmm, I wonder if Jade will be asian as per the name stereotype.

I hope not  It was a finger error that my little finger press on the shift key but I did bother to change it. Anyway, I never play WoW but mainly playing minesweeper and spider.

Hopefully, Jade might not be Ruby's twin sister... if it was susposted to represent the crossfire. Or ATi/AMD might try to show how powerful their GPU is by real-time rendering 2 3-D Ruby model. Probably, we may see some physic effect on the new demo too.

    Niiiice.

Jade and Ruby representing crossfire hmm? Hopefully the big story this demo round will be them discovering they're not sisters, and thus enabling them to 'link up' and make love ATi Crossfire style. Serious. I don't know about showing GPU prowess by rendering two Ruby models though, if what we've seen so far is any indication, she doesn't seem much more detailed than previous, and it probably would be no sweat for even an x1800/x1900 to render two of her in a scene at once...

I'm definitely hanging out for the link-up scene.

Yes, twin younger, right. But how old is Ruby supposed to be? And how old would that make potentially-sister Jade? Just curious is all...there's allready more depth to Ruby than I ever saw from an Nvidia demo, well...except Creature

HAHA I serious doubt that. Nintendo did that to save memory space, etc. It would show AMD can't render more than one thing at a time. Not good, not good. :D

Seriously though, I do hope she's Asian, it would match her name and Asains are very sexy but of course they would have to be half-sisters. lol
