    It works !

In fact, it works really well without a very large performance hit. I can even use transparency supersampling and maintain a passable framerate. Right now I've settled for 2xMSAA with transparency supersampling.
Gotta wonder why they didn't just include the option in the game.

GTX260. I had to follow L233's tip and set nHancer to Vanguard compatibility mode.

I just did some testing, was getting 25-35 FPS at 1080p with 2xMSAA and transparency supersampling, everything maxed out. This is a nice looking game, and perhaps the best implementation of SSAO I've seen.

BTW, this is with the Demo.

Yep, I was seriously impressed with the visuals in the demo the sun shafts and SSAO in particular were a real treat, probably the best implementations I've seen. The lighting and shadowing in general is just really high quality, I couldn't really think of anything outside of Crysis that has it beat in those regards.

The view distance seemed a little short but by the looks of the config files, that should be easily rectifiable.

I'm playing the demo now, and I'm liking it! Too early to tell, will update.

oh, and my rig is old. fx60,x1900xtx,vista.

I'm assuming the controls are locked because it's a demo? I APPLAUD the quicksave, but i decry the f8,f9 nearness of quicksave, quickload. I've run n2 that monster before.

I had 89 gold when i left the beach. How much did you (anyone) have?

I'm stoked about this game. Hoping it 2b like Gothic2! Which i thought was sublime, and was almost ready to replay it!

Not old, man. It's vintage. Seasoned gaming hardware.

    How's it running?

I'm running half medium/half high settings on 768x1042 setting (my CRT (i meant) is 8 years old). Working great so far.

I'm still anticipating a G2 experience. and loving every minute.

Ok, I've completed the game. Took me about 20 hours and I did pretty much all side quests related to the faction I picked. You mileage may vary, though, but don't expect a 40+ hour content monster. I don't feel that I rushed through the game.

All in all, the game is solid but it IMO doesn't do any justice to it's promising back story. Humanity is supposedly on the brink of extinction and the Inquisition has interned most of the island's inhabitants in the city but you don't actually see any of this. The city is sparsely populated and quite boring. The way the power struggle within the city plays out feels cheap, it lacks the dynamic elements you had in Gothic 3. The game world is pretty small and there's little point in exploration because you'll see it all simply by following where the quests take you.

In terms of story telling Risen fails pretty badly and the world doesn't feel as alive as it did in Gothic 3. It's still an entertaining game that does a lot of things right but I expected more, to be honest.

Which means worthy, IMO. I've had NO complaints so far. BUY this game. It is solid. Or, mabye I will kill you for fun. Or not, you'll NEVER know if I'm pursuing you like you might imagine. Do you REALLY want to live your life like THAT?

    PS I'm drunk.

I think they redid the guy's model entirely... He looks broader shouldered in the X360 version.

I am building my own collection of games. Perhaps you can throw in a good word for me so that I can sit with the great ones and and spit down on fools when it's time to go.
