Continued:

There were lots of IHVs showing off "hands on demos" One of them was a Linux box running Attack of the Clones hi-def video with a Linux "top" window showing CPU usage. ~10% CPU when decoding HD video. Also, apparently, it can encode video in HW as well, supporting Tivo-like/PVR/time-shifting apps. But I'm not clear on this last one, since how much was done on CPU and how much on the GPU wasn't made clear.

    Nuff said :)

I think the UT3 self shadowing of bump/displace/squizawazzel maps is sweet and I wonder how its done generating something like horizon maps would be costly as far as storage goes. Same deal for the Far Cry shots but the shots don't show me as much details.

Cool, that R300 really give them a wake-up call! 8)

Yeah, they alluded to that themselves. It will be interesting to benchmark for sure...

    Fast dynamic branching in VS?

Okay, now I got it. About bloody time this was introduced!

Displacement mapping is what I'm most looking forward to (that and soft shadows) so cool to see it put to use.

Thanks for the notes, DemoCoder. Awesome chip me thinks...
probably 20 more minutes. I compressed the video, then the video compression software crashed and removed the damn file before I could copy it. Recompressing now.

I hope you're uploading it to a website, and not someone's private FTP.

    This is only the beginning.

the 12 vs 12 competition is for the money,
but the 16 vs 16 battle is for the soul. 8)

When the real products become available in June and the drivers stabilize, we will understand why Carmack has waited. :)

It will be imperative, however, that many, if not all serious players enhance their platform, from the power supply, to new CPU / Motherboard configurations. :(

A perfect storm is off the coast; graphics at a previously unheard of level, software titles that offer deeply immersive play, CPUs that will help push back some bottlenecks. Another interesting development is what is happening in heat transference -- a new technology will see the light of day in the next 90 days. :D

Im ftping the video now, its 5 minutes, 13mb. It's 400xsomething, not great for watching fullscreen.

Tommorow, if someone is willing to host a much larger one, say, 50-100mb, I can encode a 640x480@30fps one.

btw, once the video is up, if someone else could mirror it asap, that would be great. I'm getting the feeling this is going to be a video everyone wants...
