No. Call me a PC snob, but if you release a game for the PC it should be designed to work on a PC...which means functional keyboard/mouse controls. IMHO.

A PC game that doesn't work with standard PC controls (kb/mouse) should say so in CAPITAL LETTERS.

A friend just summed it up pretty perfectly for me:

Looking forward to playing when I get home. I fully expected this to play best on dual analog sticks... it's a geometry wars type game. I have zero issues with that being a practical requirement.

The input snobbery really has to go both ways IMHO. I bitch when they don't let me use keyboard and mouse when it's the most natural input (i.e. FPS), but in this case it's not the most natural. I can understand wanting a note that a gamepad is recommended or something, but honestly that shouldn't have been too hard to deduce from the trailer/videos.

You mirror my thoughts exactly. You could tell exactly what kind of control system would be required to play something like this.

Bought a Renegade Ops 4 pack on Steam a few months ago, really looking forward to testing it out, looks fun!

Finally downloading now, was released/unlocked today 28th right?

Update: Played it now in 2 player COOP splitscreen on a nice 1080p 110" projector screen with gamepads, it was awesome! :) Great work Avalanche!

Bought 4pack, have yet to download, but weekend is coming !

I loved Assault Heroes 1&2 on Xbox and this looks and feels so much better!
Can't wait for it to download!

So are the controls like the free Alien Swarm game that Valve put out? Move with keyboard and shoot where mouse icon is?

Wish there was a demo for it.

If you activate tank steering (help and options -> settings) then yes:
With wasd you steer brake and accelerate. Turbo is on shift, special ability on space and left click is primary and right click secondary fire.
If you dont activate tank steering then the controls feel strange on a keyboard because "w" is driving up "a" is driving left etc.

Wait... isn't "tank steering" exactly what digi was asking for?

OK, so sounds like default controls is what I'd want to use with keyboard and mouse then (it's what games like Alien Swarm, Alien Shooter, etc. use).

But just to confirm. Shooting is where your mouse pointer is and not where the vehicle is pointed right?

Might just pick this up if that's the case.

    SB

Sounds like it, I must have missed that option. I'll try it again later.

    Thanks friend-o-pandas! :D

I bought a 360 gamepad to play Ghostbusters a couple weeks ago, so I started playing Renegade Ops with it right away.
    It's good :)

    Not gave mouse/keyboard a try.

I had co-op session tonight with my brother and we blasted through two missions! Great fun + silky smooth animation (HD6970) + very nice and colourful graphics = time well spent!

    Me likes

Indeed great game! Just played some 4-player coop and had a blast. It runs 2560x1600 w/ 4x MSAA literally pegged at 60Hz with zero frame drops on my system. No real noticeable lag online either. Very impressive :)

Particularly on PC where you can get 4 copies for $30 this game is an absolute steal!

    Well this is hugely disappointing.

Bought the game and then went to play. Only to find out you cannot configure the controls. Using WASD is awkward at best for me considering I use RDFG. Does anyone know if there is a config file hidden somewhere that would allow me to customize the controls.

I find this absolutely unforgivable for a PC game. The other game I bought, Dungeon Defenders (fantastic game) does everything right. Configurable controls, options that even allow you to set a custom screen resolution right in the options settings, etc.

The game seems to have a lot of promise, but it's absolutely unforgivable that they didn't include the ability to configure the controls.

I think I'm going to stop buying budget games that don't offer a demo. A simple demo would have allowed me to bypass buying something I may end up never playing. /sigh

    Regards,
    SB
