The game will be produced by a company called Bigben Interactive, which worked with Milestone (the creator of Ride, and several motorbike games, that ran at 30 fps -sometimes a lot less than that- on the X360, which I know relatively well, since I have some of those games) before, but switched to Kylotonn Games. I don't know about the framerate of the game, but hopefully it will be consistent.

I may be ready for another rally game. The last one I played in anger was V-Rally 2 on the PlayStation.

Yep, WRC3 was average and I have no reason to believe that WRC5 will be any better, so it all boils down to .... no 60 fps no buy.

I'm more excited about Dirt Rally which might come out next year on the consoles.

That game was spectacular for the time, it ran so smoothly, it had great graphics. A friend of mine had the PS2 in the early 2000s and he invited me to play his games back then, that was one of the best he had, in my opinion.

The graphics were impressive taking into account how smooth everything was.
Woah, careful there Dsoup dont be too hasty :D
ps: I have wrc3 and its pretty average according to reviews wrc4 is as well
I think WRC games were made by Milestone, right? They are a hit and a miss, framerate wise, with their games, but as you say they usually make fun games.

Oh my... those Dirt Rally graphics are insane, at some points it could pass for an actual rally race.

The idea of converting this thread into a thread focused on rally games rather than an individual title is quite appealing.

ps:
The ps2 version V Rally in the u.s was called Need for Speed: V-Rally 2
The Dreamcast Version Known as Test Drive: V-Rally.
Talk about milking franchises.

pps: Since this has becaome a general rally games thread, whatever you do do not buy Colin McRae Rally Remastered its Colin McRae Rally 04 ported first to ios then reported to other systems.
It also has all the fun stuff removed and is a shell of its original

I'm impressed with the dry daylight rendering. Typically on games that render wet and dusky with near photorealism, they daylight racing looks obviously computer gamey. Dirt Rally looked very realistic in those situations.

WRC (NA version) on PS2 was great. The next iteration on the PS3 was not, felt like they just ported the previous game with zero optimization. We're due for a decent rally game.

The only Rally games I enjoyed in gaming were:
Sega Rally (arcade and Saturn)
Sega Rally 2 (arcade only. DC version sucked)
WRC on PS2
Rally mode on Gran Turismo. Especially GT5 and GT6 versions were awesome.

no mcrae ?
Collin McRae games were very good in the Xbox era, if only a bit expensive, but games used to be very expensive then, costing like 70€, not necessarily AAAs most of them. I remember playing Broken Sword 3 on the Xbox and that was my first 70€ game ever, which wasn't a good deal, but I purchased it in a electronics store rather than a specialised Game store or similar, and that had its repercussion in the price.

I am personally disappointed that I have yet to experience a rally game that was even close to how good rallying was in GT4. This was the best drive / track combo so far I've driven anywhere in any game:

lol at the photographer after the 29 seconds mark into the video. Wow... I remember having lots of discussions with GT4 fans in the day after Forza came out and never realised how fine rallying was in that game. It's quite impressive for a game that does a bit of everything -not sure if there were Formula 1 like cars in GT4, I don't remember them-.

GT5 and GT6 also feature rally races. What changed ever since then for you to remember GT4 so fondly when it comes to rallies?

It became less important and it didn't have as fine a gravel track as this one. This track is just really great driving. The new track for GT5 looked beautiful though, but GT4 had a lot more tracks, and this particular track and car were a real standout. GT5 did have the track generator however and that had a rally track variation as well that was pretty good, but not quite as good in my memory.

This is a good example of what was available in GT5:

The first track is created from the track generator afaik, though fixed for this challenge. The second track is a really beautiful alps track. Just not as great to drive, maybe a bit too technical here and there and not enough satisfying drift turns ;). The third track a great snow track.

This is a really lousy quality video, but has the best driving and you can see from it I think that the handling was great:

Forza Horizon 2 has been providing the rallying goods recently, especially the Storm Island expansion which is entirely offroad/rally-focussed.

It's not sim rallying, more like Dirt style. Night races in full storm conditions are spectacular.
