Well in other news I heard that the nv40 will ship with a bundled in bottle of everclear.

IT is a very important part of the new fsaa they have added to the card.

You set your settings as low as they can go to get ultra high framerates and then have a few shots of everclear and suddenly the jaggys go away .

ati with VIVO ? Wouldn't that take away the potential sale point of AIW series card?

I would really like to have VIVO tho, since that is one of the major strength in Nvidia based cards.

This thread was idiotic I'm glad Dave had the guts to say so.

This wouldn't be the first VIVO card from ATI (I have a radeon 7200 with VIVO sitting right here). They have coexisted with AIW cards before, why not in the future?

Its sad to see the the noise increase so much over the last month or so around here. Especially in this part of the forum. Tahir came out with a specific piece of news. Everyone else has basically posted one liners.

EpicStruggle is correct - this thread has been turned into something stupid. If people don't heed the warning for this forum then we'll start getting heavy on modding. Its not wanted here.

In general, I agree with Dave's assertion (and warning) about the type of discussion that occurs in the one forum at Beyond3D that really is the basis for this site. We (i.e. B3D) are just regular folks that appreciate a good laff now and then or even a bit of side-tracking but I personally think there should be more respect paid to every individual forum at this site. I do think this thread of Tahir's belong in the "3D Graphics Companies and Industry" forum (since the content of his post suggests that forthcoming replies would essentially be about ATI, which is essentially what he wanted to talk about, or wanted replies to be about... I mean, what technology-talk is there to be expected from his post/thread?).

Please do not encourage the B3D partners to view the forums to be (very) much less an important part of this site (as if it isn't already... do MfA, Fenney, NV and ATI engineers even visit our front page?).

R420 and NV40 won't show up during Cebit.

It might be shown in back rooms to the press (who sign nda's). Thats what theInq is putting out. Seems fair enough, unless samples have already made their way to the press.

"A12 is the stepping of silicon that means that the chip is ready for production and we are told that cards could be available much closer then planned, just depending on the marketing department saying yes.

ATI partners have all the time they need to tweak this card design to make it up and running but ATI doesn't want to show us any cards before or during CeBIT."

I don't know how soon it'll be before its released but I dont beleive that the r420 will be 2-3x better than curret cards which could really mean any card. Its just not good marketing to release something that much better. You'll mess up all the stock everyone has of 9800 pro. ATI probably learned a good lesson from 8500 to not release a card that powerful that fast.

You know its going to be interesting to see where NV and ATI aming for. Im sure they both thought the other guy was going to go all out, and so planned accordingly. Thats why Im of the opinion both cards _will_ be significantly better than the current top of the line cards.

If ati was the only graphics chip company, it'd make sense for them to always limit themselves to steady yet slow increases. But they face competition. And this competition is from a company which absolutely hates to lose and has been recently humiliated...

Nvidia will be out for blood so Ati will need to be also. 2-3x performance increase is prudent.

One might wonder what lies behind a choice like that. Cebit is one of the biggest electronics fairs in the world, if not THE biggest, and in the past, the cards would already have been unveiled by now. If ATi has production-class silicon already, why would they choose to NOT reveal their stuff at this undoubtedly excellent chance?

It's not as if their competitors (well, competitor, really) can just watch the unveiling, then pop off to the labs to redesign their hardware to outclass ATi's... ;)

In a word? Clockspeed. Unless R420 is extremely underwhelming and the NV40 specs are true, that's what's going to determine the winner for this generation.

When they announced 9700 they totally misunderstood what would happen to all the 8500's that had been produced or were out in the channel already, which caused quite a large financial shortfall (and later gave rise to the cheapo 9100's) during the first quarter when 9700 went on sale. There's no point in osbourning your own products if they are still selling or you have them in the channel - you announce a new part when competetive pressures demand it, or you've run through the inventory of your old parts.
